Regulation and Mechanisms of ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter A1-Mediated Cellular Cholesterol Efflux [PDF]

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, 2003
ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) plays a major role in cholesterol homeostasis and HDL metabolism. ABCA1 mediates cellular cholesterol and phospholipid efflux to lipid-poor apolipoproteins, and upregulation of ABCA1 activity is antiatherogenic.

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

Fungicide Resistance Genetics of Apple Scab fungus Venturia inaequalis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Apple scab, caused by the ascomycete fungus Venturia inaequalis, is considered the most devastating disease on domestic apple crops. Apples are the most important cultivated crop in temperate regions and the United States produced about 4.6 million tons ...

Ratoon Season Rice Reduces Methane Emissions by Limiting Acetic Acid Transport to the Rhizosphere and Inhibiting Methanogens

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study finds that the interaction between ABA‐OsCIPK2‐OsSWEET1A reduces the allocation of methane producing bacteria carbon source (acetic acid) content to the rhizosphere soil of ratoon season rice, thereby reducing methane emissions. Abstract Rice paddies are a major, persistent source of atmospheric methane (CH4), emission rates depend on the ...

Varicellovirus UL 49.5 proteins differentially affect the function of the transporter associated with antigen processing, TAP [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Cytotoxic T-lymphocytes play an important role in the protection against viral infections, which they detect through the recognition of virus-derived peptides, presented in the context of MHC class I molecules at the surface of the infected cell.

Inhibition of SLC11A1‐Mediated Lysosomal Iron Accumulation in Microglia Promotes Repair Following White Matter Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Genetic and pharmacological inhibition of SLC11A1 functioning as an H+/Fe2+ antiporter–mediated lysosomal iron accumulation in microglia promotes lysosomal lumen acidification, increases CTSD expression, enhances lysosomal myelin debris uptake and degradation, and promotes repair following white matter stroke. ABSTRACT White matter stroke (WMS) results

ATP-Binding Cassette Transporter A1 in Lipoprotein Metabolism and Atherosclerosis [PDF]

open access: yesArteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology, 2013
ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) is a key protein determining high-density lipoprotein (HDL) function. In 1999, it was discovered by 3 independent groups that mutations in the gene for ABCA1 underlie the molecular defect in the HDL deficiency syndrome Tangier disease.

NO-1886 upregulates ATP binding cassette transporter A1 and inhibits diet-induced atherosclerosis in Chinese Bama minipigs

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
It is widely believed that high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) functions to transport cholesterol from peripheral cells to the liver by reverse cholesterol transport (RCT), a pathway that may protect against atherosclerosis by clearing excess ...

Stearoyl-CoA Desaturase Inhibits ATP-binding Cassette Transporter A1-mediated Cholesterol Efflux and Modulates Membrane Domain Structure*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2003
Liver X receptor/retinoid X receptor (LXR/RXR) transcription factors have been found to induce a number of genes involved in the regulation of cellular cholesterol efflux, including the ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), which mediates the ...
