Refinement of amino‐acid conformation vs. difference density maps in time‐resolved serial femtosecond crystallography data analysis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dFoCC pipeline starts with observed DED and resting‐state coordinates, which are then used to generate a library of triggered states. Correlation analysis of the calculated DED features of each candidate vs observed DED permits quantitative evaluation of candidate structural quality.

Secure Channels based on Authenticated Encryption Schemes: A Simple Characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We consider communication sessions in which a pair of parties begin by running an authenticated key-exchange protocol to obtain a shared session key, and then secure successive data transmissions between them via an authenticated encryption scheme based ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Multiplex: TBC-Based Authenticated Encryption with Sponge-Like Rate

open access: yesIACR Transactions on Symmetric Cryptology
Authenticated Encryption (AE) modes of operation based on Tweakable Block Ciphers (TBC) usually measure efficiency in the number of calls to the underlying primitive per message block. On the one hand, many existing solutions reach a primitive-rate of 1,

Ring Authenticated Encryption: A New Type of . . .

open access: yes, 2004
By combining the two notations of ring signature and authenticated encryption together, we introduce a new type of authenticated encryption signature, called ring authenticated encryption, which has the following properties: signer-ambiguity, signer ...

Directed evolution of enzymes at the crossroads of tradition and innovation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An iterative cycle of data‐driven enzyme optimization comprising four stages: genetic diversification of a template enzyme, expression of protein variants, high‐throughput evaluation, and machine‐learning‐guided redesign of the next variant library.

An Efficient Authenticated Encryption Scheme With Message Linkages and Low Communication Costs

open access: yes, 2012
[[abstract]]An efficient authenticated encryption scheme with message linkages is proposed. For achieving both privacy and integrity in data communications, the proposed scheme requires smaller bandwidth and computational time when compared to previously

Biometric-Authenticated Searchable Encryption

open access: yes, 2020
We introduce Biometric-Authenticated Keyword Search (BAKS), a novel searchable encryption scheme that relieves clients from managing cryptographic keys and relies purely on client’s biometric data for authenticated outsourcing and retrieval of files indexed by encrypted keywords.

Small RNA pathways in mammalian oocytes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Three distinct small RNA pathways operate in mammalian oocytes: RNAi interference (RNAi), the microRNA (miRNA) pathway, and the PIWI‐associated RNA (piRNA) pathway. These pathways use small RNAs to guide sequence‐specific repression and contribute to oocyte biology by targeting genes and mobile elements or appear insignificant since different ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
