An antigen-driven B-cell response within the salivary glands of patients with Sjögren’s syndrome [PDF]
Infection with a bacterium or virus induces the production of antibodies, specialised protein molecules that bind to and eliminate the microorganism.

Roles of circular RNAs in immune regulation and autoimmune diseases
Circular RNAs (circRNAs), as a novel class of endogenously expressed non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs), have a high stability and often present tissue-specific expression and evolutionary conservation.

Objectives Social determinants of health (SDoH) can impact outcomes but are not routinely screened for in US outpatient rheumatology clinics. This study determined the feasibility of routine point‐of‐care SDoH screening among patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), and associated barriers and facilitators at the physician, care team, and ...

Clinical characteristics and outcome of patients with autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) uniformly defined as primary by a diagnostic work-up [PDF]
Primary autoimmune hemolytic anemia (P-AIHA) is a relatively uncommon and hetereogeneous disease characterized by the destruction of red blood cells due to anti-erythrocyte autoantibodies (AeAbs) in the absence of an associated disease [1–3].

Whole‐Blood RNA Sequencing Profiling of Patients With Rheumatoid Arthritis Treated With Tofacitinib
Objective Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) often fail to respond to therapies, including JAK inhibitors (JAKi), and treatment allocation is made via a trial‐and‐error strategy. A comprehensive analysis of responses to JAKi, including tofacitinib, by RNA sequencing (RNAseq) would allow the discovery of transcriptomic markers with a two‐fold ...

Thyroid ultrasonography reporting: consensus of Italian Thyroid Association (AIT), Italian Society of Endocrinology (SIE), Italian Society of Ultrasonography in Medicine and Biology (SIUMB) and Ultrasound Chapter of Italian Society of Medical Radiology (SIRM) [PDF]
Thyroid ultrasonography (US) is the gold standard for thyroid imaging and its widespread use is due to an optimal spatial resolution for superficial anatomic structures, a low cost and the lack of health risks.

Background Thyroid gland disorders are variably associated with Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS). Many of the clinical features in newborns with PWS are similar to those found in congenital hypothyroidism (CH).

Targeting B Cells and Plasma Cells in Autoimmune Diseases
Success with B cell depletion using rituximab has proven the concept that B lineage cells represent a valid target for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, and has promoted the development of other B cell targeting agents.

Hypoxia promotes the epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) of renal tubular epithelial cells via the SIRT1‐FoxO1‐FoxO3‐autophagy pathway, thereby resulting in the fibrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells. Activation of SIRT1 or induction of autophagy inhibits this process, alleviating hypoxia‐induced fibrosis.
