Stochastic optimization of a cold atom experiment using a genetic algorithm

open access: yes, 2008
We employ an evolutionary algorithm to automatically optimize different stages of a cold atom experiment without human intervention. This approach closes the loop between computer based experimental control systems and automatic real time analysis and ...

Automatic classification system of Raman spectra applied to pigments analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Raman spectroscopy is one of the few non-destructive techniques capable of identifying pigments in art works. Raman spectra contain powerful information that can be used to identify unknown compounds and their chemical structures.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

The microbiome biomarkers of pregnant women’s vaginal area predict preterm prelabor rupture in Western China

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology
IntroductionIntraamniotic infection is crucial in preterm prelabor rupture of membranes(PPROM), a clinical condition resulting from the invasion of vaginal opportunistic microbes into the amniotic cavity.

A primal-dual algorithm framework for convex saddle-point optimization

open access: yesJournal of Inequalities and Applications, 2017
In this study, we introduce a primal-dual prediction-correction algorithm framework for convex optimization problems with known saddle-point structure. Our unified frame adds the proximal term with a positive definite weighting matrix.

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

MAGiC: A multimodal framework for analysing gaze in dyadic communication

open access: yesJournal of Eye Movement Research, 2018
The analysis of dynamic scenes has been a challenging domain in eye tracking research. This study presents a framework, named MAGiC, for analyzing gaze contact and gaze aversion in face-to-face communication. MAGiC provides an environment that is able to
