Automatic Detection of Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy with Hybrid Feature Extraction Based on Scale Space Analysis and Tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Feature extraction is a process to obtain the characteristics or features of an object where the value of the features will be used for analysis in the next process. In retinal image, extraction of blood vessels' characteristics can be used for detection

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Automatic Detection of Floating Ulva prolifera Bloom from Optical Satellite Imagery

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Annual outbreaks of floating Ulva prolifera blooms in the Yellow Sea have caused serious local environmental and economic problems. Rapid and effective monitoring of Ulva blooms from satellite observations with wide spatial-temporal coverage can greatly ...

An automatic lightning detection and photographic system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1972
Conventional 35-mm camera is activated by an electronic signal every time lightning strikes in general vicinity. Electronic circuit detects lightning by means of antenna which picks up atmospheric radio disturbances.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

A Deep Learning Model for Automatic Plastic Mapping Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Data

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Although plastic pollution is one of the most noteworthy environmental issues nowadays, there is still a knowledge gap in terms of monitoring the spatial distribution of plastics, which is needed to prevent its negative effects and to plan mitigation ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Anti-spoofing Methods for Automatic SpeakerVerification System

open access: yes, 2017
Growing interest in automatic speaker verification (ASV)systems has lead to significant quality improvement of spoofing attackson them. Many research works confirm that despite the low equal er-ror rate (EER) ASV systems are still vulnerable to spoofing ...
