Automated detection of diabetic retinopathy lesions in ultra-widefield fundus images using an attention-augmented YOLOv8 framework

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
ObjectiveTo enhance the automatic detection precision of diabetic retinopathy (DR) lesions, this study introduces an improved YOLOv8 model specifically designed for the precise identification of DR lesions.MethodThis study integrated two attention ...

Automatic Detection of Egg Shell Cracks [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The challenge was to find a reliable, non-intrusive means of detecting cracks in eggs. Intensity data from eggs were collected by VisionSmart for the group to analyse. Given the short time period three main questions were addressed. 1) Is there a feature

Identifying e-Commerce in Enterprises by means of Text Mining and Classification Algorithms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Monitoring specific features of the enterprises, for example, the adoption of e-commerce, is an important and basic task for several economic activities. This type of information is usually obtained by means of surveys, which are costly due to the amount

CCDC80 suppresses high‐grade serous ovarian cancer migration via negative regulation of B7‐H3

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PAX8 is a lineage‐specific master regulator of transcription in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSC) progression. We show for the first time that PAX8 facilitates proliferation and metastasis by repressing the cell autonomous tumor suppressor CCDC80 and inducing B7‐H3 expression.

"Liar, Liar Pants on Fire": A New Benchmark Dataset for Fake News Detection

open access: yes, 2017
Automatic fake news detection is a challenging problem in deception detection, and it has tremendous real-world political and social impacts. However, statistical approaches to combating fake news has been dramatically limited by the lack of labeled ...

Automated analysis of radar imagery of Venus: handling lack of ground truth [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Lack of verifiable ground truth is a common problem in remote sensing image analysis. For example, consider the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image data of Venus obtained by the Magellan spacecraft.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Circulating tumor cell viability during and after radiotherapy mirrors treatment response in cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Radiotherapy (RT) response depends on the DNA repair capacity of tumor and host cells. We show that circulating tumor cell (CTC) counts and apoptosis rates before and after RT predict treatment response and outcome, which can be accessed via easily accessible liquid biopsy approaches. Created in BioRender. Wikman, H.

Automatic Detection of Hyperarticulated Speech [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Hyperarticulation is a speech adaptation that consists of adopting a clearer form of speech in an attempt to improve recognition levels. However, it has the opposite effect when talking to ASR systems, as they are not trained with such kind of speech. We present approaches for automatic detection of hyperarticulation, which can be used to improve the ...

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.
