Automatic differentiation in Odyssée [PDF]

open access: yesTellus A: Dynamic Meteorology and Oceanography, 1993
This paper describes the design of Odyssée, a system for fortran programs manipulations and its application to automatic differentiation. The Odyssée system manipulates fortran programs as symbolic objects. It is an open system built as a toolkit, written in a high-level programming language adapted to this purpose.

Applicability of mitotic figure counting by deep learning: a development and pan‐cancer validation study

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In this study, we developed a deep learning method for mitotic figure counting in H&E‐stained whole‐slide images and evaluated its prognostic impact in 13 external validation cohorts from seven different cancer types. Patients with more mitotic figures per mm2 had significantly worse patient outcome in all the studied cancer types except colorectal ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ALGEBRA OF HYPERDUAL NUMBERS IN NEURAL NETWORKS

open access: yesScientific Journal of Astana IT University
For the numerical solution of problems arising in various fields of mathematics and mechanics, it is often necessary to determine the values of derivatives included in the model.

Efficient Automatic Subdifferentiation for Programs with Linear Branches

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
Computing an element of the Clarke subdifferential of a function represented by a program is an important problem in modern non-smooth optimization.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Deep Learning–Assisted Differentiation of Four Peripheral Neuropathies Using Corneal Confocal Microscopy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Peripheral neuropathies contribute to patient disability but may be diagnosed late or missed altogether due to late referral, limitation of current diagnostic methods and lack of specialized testing facilities. To address this clinical gap, we developed NeuropathAI, an interpretable deep learning–based multiclass classification ...

Spatiotemporal control of laser intensity using differentiable programming

open access: yesMachine Learning: Science and Technology
Optical techniques for spatiotemporal control can produce laser pulses with custom amplitude, phase, or polarization structure. In nonlinear optics and plasma physics, the use of structured pulses typically follows a forward design approach, in which the

Remote Monitoring in Myasthenia Gravis: Exploring Symptom Variability

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a rare, autoimmune disorder characterized by fluctuating muscle weakness and potential life‐threatening crises. While continuous specialized care is essential, access barriers often delay timely interventions. To address this, we developed MyaLink, a telemedical platform for MG patients.
