Host-linked soil viral ecology along a permafrost thaw gradient [PDF]
Climate change threatens to release abundant carbon that is sequestered at high latitudes, but the constraints on microbial metabolisms that mediate the release of methane and carbon dioxide are poorly understood1,2,3,4,5,6,7.

(Per)chlorate-reducing bacteria can utilize aerobic and anaerobic pathways of aromatic degradation with (per)chlorate as an electron acceptor. [PDF]
UnlabelledThe pathways involved in aromatic compound oxidation under perchlorate and chlorate [collectively known as (per)chlorate]-reducing conditions are poorly understood.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Bacteriophages (phages) are one of the critical biotic drivers of prokaryotic community dynamics, functions, and evolution. Despite their importance in aquatic ecosystems, very few phages have been isolated from freshwater lakes, hampering our ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Yaravirus brasiliense genomic structure analysis and its possible influence on the metabolism [PDF]
Here we analyze the Yaravirus brasiliense, an amoeba-infecting 80-nm-sized virus with a 45-kbp dsDNA, using structural molecular modeling. Almost all of its 74 genes were previously identified as ORFans.

Niche differentiation is spatially and temporally regulated in the rhizosphere. [PDF]
The rhizosphere is a hotspot for microbial carbon transformations, and is the entry point for root polysaccharides and polymeric carbohydrates that are important precursors to soil organic matter (SOM).

Etoposide induces DNA damage, activating p53‐dependent apoptosis via caspase‐3/7, which cleaves PARP1. Dammarenediol II enhances this apoptotic pathway by suppressing O‐GlcNAc transferase activity, further decreasing O‐GlcNAcylation. The reduction in O‐GlcNAc levels boosts p53‐driven apoptosis and influences the Akt/GSK3β/mTOR signaling pathway ...

Role of the Bifunctional Aminoacyl-tRNA Synthetase EPRS in Human Disease [PDF]
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (AARS) are a class of enzymes that catalyze the charging of tRNAs with cognate amino acids, a critical step that contributes to the fidelity of protein synthesis.
