Bit Error Rates for Ultrafast APD Based Optical Receivers: Exact and Large Deviation Based Asymptotic Approaches [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Exact analysis as well as asymptotic analysis, based on large-deviation theory (LDT), are developed to compute the bit-error rate (BER) for ultrafast avalanche-photodiode (APD) based optical receivers assuming on-off keying and direct detection.

Correlated Transient Response of Buried Cables and Lightning Channel Radiation of Return Strokes of Five Rocket‐Triggered Lightning Strikes

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Data from five rocket‐triggered lightning flashes are adopted to analyse the correlated transient response of buried cables and lightning channel radiations. These five flashes have the same termination point that is right above the buried cables and involve a total of 32 return strokes.

Temperature effects on characteristics and performance of near-infrared wide bandwidth for different avalanche photodiodes structures

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2019
In this paper, the influences of thermal and spectral variations on various structures of avalanche photodiodes (APDs) have been deeply investigated. The characteristics and performance of Silicon (Si), Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) and Indium Gallium Arsenide

AlAsSb avalanche photodiodes with a sub-mV/K temperature coefficient of breakdown voltage

open access: yes, 2011
The temperature dependence of dark current and avalanche gain were measured on AlAsSb p-i-n diodes with avalanche region widths of 80 and 230 nm. Measurements at temperatures ranging from 77 to 295 K showed that the dark current decreases rapidly with ...

Pressure‐dependent coupling between arterial pressure and intercostal muscle blood‐flow index during acute hypotension in humans

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Regulation of respiratory muscle blood flow during acute systemic hypotension remains poorly understood in humans because continuous assessment of microvascular perfusion during rapid haemodynamic transients has been technically challenging. Using diffuse correlation spectroscopy, we investigated second‐by‐second coupling between mean arterial

A New Approach for Computing the Bandwidth Statistics of Avalanche Photodiodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
A new approach for characterizing the avalanche-buildup-time-limited bandwidth of avalanche photodiodes (APDs) is introduced which relies on the direct knowledge of the statistics of the random response time.

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 36, Issue 27, 2 April 2026.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.
