Refrigeration and modified atmosphere to the conservation of ‘Malasia’ Star fruit [PDF]

open access: yesCiência Rural
: Despite the fact that cold storage and modified atmosphere techniques have already been studied for fresh cut Star fruit, little has been done considering the whole fruit. Besides that, each cultivar has its peculiarities, so the efficiency of combined

Effect of edible coating of gelatin-sodium alginate with the addition of green tea (Camellia sinensis) extract on the characteristics of star fruit (Averrhoa carambola L.) during storage.

open access: yesJournal of Food Science
Star fruit has a good nutritional value but was very easy to damage. Edible coating can be used to extend the shelf life of star fruit. Green tea had been added to improve the mechanical properties and functional value of edible coating. This study aimed

The Sexual Dimorphism in Rectum and Protein Digestion Pathway Influence Sex Pheromone Synthesis in Male Bactrocera Dorsalis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 11, Issue 44, November 26, 2024.
A work model shows how protein digestion and absorption pathway influences male‐specific sex pheromone production by symbiotic Bacillus sp. in the rectum. The male‐specific rectal structure is different from that of female and the high expression of CPB and PEPT in the protein digestion and absorption pathway contribute to high levels of ammonium ...

Structure, Property, and Functionality of 2D ZnO Microplatelets with Low Photocatalytic Activity for Application as UV Filters in Sunscreens for Photoprotection

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 9, Issue 38, October 11, 2024.
Two‐dimensional ZnO microplatelets exhibited good ultraviolet radiation (UVR) absorption and a band gap energy of 3.2 eV, comparable to commercial ZnO. Sunscreen formulations containing ZnO microplatelets had photoprotection factors similar to formulations containing commercial ZnO.

Comparative adult preference–larval performance relationship between a specialist and a generalist tephritid: Implication for predicting field host‐range

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2024.
The aim of our study was to compare the larval performance and adult preference of a highly generalist species, Bactrocera tryoni, and a highly specialist species, B. umbrosa. Our data comfort the hypothesis that the preference–performance relationship is tighter in specialists than in generalist species.

A study on fruit fly host range reveals the low infestation rate of Bactrocera dorsalis (Tephritidae) in Mayotte

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, Volume 26, Issue 3, Page 314-326, August 2024.
In Mayotte, we studied fruit fly host range 5–12 years after the invasion of the world's most invasive and polyphagous pests of fruits, Bactrocera dorsalis. Surprisingly, results show low occurrence and infestation rates of B. dorsalis. Only seven host plant species were identified over the 84 collected plant species.
