Simple axioms for countably additive subjective probability

open access: yes
This paper refines Savage's theory of subjective probability for the case of countably additive beliefs. First, I replace his continuity axioms P6 and P7 with a simple modification of Arrow's (1970) Monotone Continuity.

Inefficiency [PDF]

open access: yes
We introduce an ordinal model of efficiency measurement. Our primitive is a notion of efficiency that is comparative, but not cardinal or absolute.

Independent Axioms for Vector Spaces

open access: yes, 1973
In a recent paper [1], Victor Bryant shows how the number of axioms required to define a vector space can be reduced to seven (in addition to closure requirements).

Distinct Propositions/Same Proposition

open access: yesTheoria, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT ‘Propositions’ are or include truths and falsehoods—potential points of agreement and disagreement. On the question of when it's a case of different propositions, or instead a case of the same proposition differently expressed, conflicting philosophical positions are canvassed and a Fregean conclusion drawn.

A Top–Down Thermodynamically Motivated Perspective on Multiscale Material Modeling

open access: yesProceedings in Applied Mathematics and Mechanics, Volume 26, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Established multiscale strategies such as QM/MM coupling, computational homogenization, quasi‐continuum approaches, and thermodynamically formulated continuum models provide powerful scale‐bridging tools, however, each of them is formulated on a different effective energetic level, and an explicit recursive energy reference structure ...

Real and Apparent Deviations From Rational Choice

open access: yesKyklos, Volume 79, Issue 4, Page 1153-1178, November 2026.
ABSTRACT This paper offers a taxonomy of real and apparent deviations from rationality. The taxonomy is based on three axes of divides—whereas the axes are successive refinements. The outermost‐axis divide delineates “anxiety‐based choices” from “anxiety‐free choices.” Anxiety‐based choices are real deviations such as the Allais and Ellsberg paradoxes ...

Reading Dürer in Late Sixteenth‐Century Padua: Matteo Macigni (ca. 1510–1582), His Library and the Annotated Institutionum geometricarum (Paris, 1535)

open access: yesRenaissance Studies, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 865-883, November 2026.
ABSTRACT This article contributes to the history of material culture and intellectual biography by definitively identifying the Paduan scholar Matteo Macigni (ca. 1510–1582) as the author of the annotations found in a 1535 copy of Albrecht Dürer’s Institutionum geometricarum currently preserved in Vicenza.

Updating Choquet Integrals , Consequentialism and Dynamic Consistency [PDF]

open access: yes
Choquet capacities have been used to represent decision makers’ beliefs in order to generalise the expected utility approach. Conditional capacities have to be defined for dynamic choice situations where information may modify the decision maker future ...

Multilateral Index Approaches in the Presence of Product‐Specific Price Trends and Data Gaps

open access: yesReview of Income and Wealth, Volume 72, Issue 4, November 2026.
ABSTRACT The prices of some products respond more strongly to changes in the general price level than others. This study explains why such product‐specific price level elasticities lead to biased time‐product‐dummy (TPD) estimates of price levels. Other popular multilateral index approaches such as the Gini‐Éltető‐Köves‐Szulc (GEKS) and Geary‐Khamis ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 28, Issue 20, 21 October 2026.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...
