Modeling of Azobenzene-Based Compounds

open access: yesPhysical Sciences Reviews, 2017
AbstractAzobenzene is by far the most studied photochromic molecule and its applications range from optical storage to bio-engineering. To exploit the great potential of azobenzene, one must achieve deep understanding of its photochemistry as single molecule in solution AS WELL AS in-chain moiety and pendent group in macromolecular structures. With the

Photoswitching of Site-Selective RNA Scission by Sequential Incorporation of Azobenzene and Acridine Residues in a DNA Oligomer

open access: yesJournal of Nucleic Acids, 2011
Photoresponsive systems for site-selective RNA scission have been prepared by combining Lu(III) ions with acridine/azobenzene dual-modified DNA. The modified DNA forms a heteroduplex with substrate RNA, and the target phosphodiester linkages in front of ...

Supramolecular effects in dendritic systems containing photoactive groups

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências, 2000
In this article are described dendritic structures containing photoactive groups at the surface or in the core. The observed supramolecular effects can be attributed to the nature of the photoactive group and their location in the dendritic architecture.

Nonlocal communication with photoinduced structures at the surface of a polymer film

open access: yes, 2005
Nonlocal communication between two laser light beams is experimented in a photochromic polymer thin films. Information exchange between the beams is mediated by the self-induction of a surface relief pattern.

Electron attachment to trans-azobenzene

open access: yesPhysical Chemistry Chemical Physics, 2009
The temporary anion states of gas-phase trans-azobenzene are characterised by means of electron transmission spectroscopy (ETS) in the 0-6 eV range. The measured energies of vertical electron attachment are compared with the energies of the pi* virtual orbitals of the neutral molecule supplied by HF (at MP2 optimized geometries) and B3LYP calculations.

Synthesis and testing of the first azobenzene mannobioside as photoswitchable ligand for the bacterial lectin FimH

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2013
In order to allow spatial and temporal control of carbohydrate-specific bacterial adhesion, it has become our goal to synthesise azobenzene mannosides as photoswitchable inhibitors of type 1 fimbriae-mediated adhesion of E. coli.

Using Light-Switching Molecules to Modulate Charge Mobility in a Quantum Dot Array

open access: yes, 2014
We have studied the electron hopping in a two-CdSe quantum dot system linked by an azobenzene-derived light-switching molecule. This system can be considered as a prototype of a QD supercrystal.

An Agonist/Antagonist Photo‐Switchable Vitamin D Mimetic Enables Bidirectional Optical Control of VDR

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
Vitamin D exhibits complex and cell‐specific biological effects in multiple tissues via activation of the ligand‐sensing transcription factor vitamin D receptor (VDR). The photo‐switchable vitamin D mimetic 10 transitions between VDR antagonist (E) and agonist (Z) activity upon illumination and offers unprecedented bidirectional optical control over ...

Overcrowded Alkene Photo‐Redox‐Switches Based on Quinolinium/Carbene Building Blocks

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A modular synthesis of a new class of photo‐ and redox‐switches is described based on the combination of quinolinium salts and carbenes. Photochemical switching allows to selectively switch between folded E/Z isomers, while electrochemical switching allows to change between neutral, radical cation and dicationic oxidation states, which are all isolable

Affinity Peptides With pH Sensitivity for the Enrichment of CD38+ Cells

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The selective enrichment of cell populations based on surface markers is critical for the advancement of gene and cell therapies. Current antibody‐based cell isolation methods, such as fluorescence‐ and magnetic‐activated cell sorting (FACS and MACS), offer high specificity but are limited by scalability, cost, and potential adverse effects on
