Active Ester Functionalized Azobenzenes as Versatile Building Blocks
Azobenzenes are important molecular switches that can still be difficult to functionalize selectively. A high yielding Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling method under mild conditions for the introduction of NHS esters to azobenzenes and diazocines has been ...

Dihydroazulene‐Azobenzene‐Dihydroazulene Triad Photoswitches [PDF]
AbstractPhotoswitch triads comprising two dihydroazulene (DHA) units in conjugation with a central trans‐azobenzene (AZB) unit were prepared in stepwise protocols starting from meta‐ and para‐disubstituted azobenzenes. The para‐connected triad had significantly altered optical properties and lacked the photoactivity of the separate photochromes.

Reprocessable Photodeformable Azobenzene Polymers [PDF]
Photodeformable azobenzene (azo) polymers are a class of smart polymers that can efficiently convert light energy into mechanical power, holding great promise in various photoactuating applications. They are typically of crosslinked polymer networks with highly oriented azo mesogens embedded inside. Upon exposure to the light of appropriate wavelength,

Azobenzene as Antimicrobial Molecules
Azo molecules, characterized by the presence of a -N=N- double bond, are widely used in various fields due to their sensitivity to external stimuli, ch as light. The emergence of bacterial resistance has pushed research towards designing new antimicrobial molecules that are more efficient than those currently in use.

Fluorescent Azobenzene-Containing Compounds: From Structure to Mechanism
The reversible photoisomerization of azobenzenes has been extensively studied to construct systems with optical responsiveness; however, this process limits the luminescence of these compounds.
