Heterogeneity of Rheumatoid Arthritis–Associated Interstitial Lung Disease by Longitudinal Forced Vital Capacity Trajectory and Associations With Disease Outcomes

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to identify unique disease trajectories within rheumatoid arthritis–associated interstitial lung disease (RA‐ILD) based on longitudinal forced vital capacity (FVC) values and their associated clinical outcomes. Methods We performed a cohort study of RA‐ILD within the Veterans Health Administration from 1999 to 2021.

The Use of Rheological and Tribological Techniques for Texture Assessment of Ambient Yoghurt

open access: yesFoods
Background: Ambient yoghurt, also known as room-temperature yoghurt, has gained increasing attention due to its convenience in distribution and consumption without needing cold storage. To ensure extended shelf life, ambient yoghurt normally undergoes an

Universal in vivo Textural Model for Human Skin based on Optical Coherence Tomograms

open access: yes, 2017
Currently, diagnosis of skin diseases is based primarily on visual pattern recognition skills and expertise of the physician observing the lesion. Even though dermatologists are trained to recognize patterns of morphology, it is still a subjective visual

Microfocus X-ray scattering investigations of eggshell nanotexture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The avian eggshell is a highly ordered calcitic bioceramic composite, with both inorganic and organic constituents. The interactions between the inorganic and organic components within the structure are poorly understood but are likely to occur at the ...

Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

Combined effects of high-pressure processing and pre-emulsified sesame oil incorporation on physical, chemical, and functional properties of reduced-fat pork batters

open access: yesCurrent Research in Food Science, 2022
In this study, the changes in emulsion stability, colour, textural properties, and protein secondary structure of reduced-fat pork batters (50% pork back-fat and 50% pre-emulsified sesame oil) treated under different pressures (0.1, 200 and 400 MPa) were

Soil Particle Size Distribution Protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this resource is to sure the distribution of different sizes of soil particles in each horizon of a soil profile. Using dry, sieved soil from a horizon, students mix the soil with water and a dispersing solution to completely separate the ...

Impact of mechanical and microstructural properties of potato puree-food additive complexes on extrusion-based 3D printing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This paper studies the applicability of extrusion-based 3D printing for constructing novel shapes from potato puree and the effects of four additives (agar, alginate, lecithin, and glycerol) added separately at three concentrations (0.5, 1, 1.5%) on the ...

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.
