Defined Pig Microbiota Mixture as Promising Strategy against Salmonellosis in Gnotobiotic Piglets
Probiotics are a potential strategy for salmonellosis control. A defined pig microbiota (DPM) mixture of nine bacterial strains previously exhibited probiotic and anti-Salmonella properties in vitro.

UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

Antibiotic resistance from food [PDF]
Antimicrobial resistant Escherichia coli are found in most fecal samples from the normal population. The present study tested the hypothesis that antibiotic-resistant bacteria come from contaminated food.

Analysis of the regulation of undecaprenyl diphosphate dephosphorylation in Escherichia coli
BacA, PgpB, and YbjG phosphatases are involved in undecaprenyl phosphate (C55P) synthesis in Escherichia coli. We analyzed the lipid contents and the gene expression in the gene‐disruption strains. Undecaprenyl diphosphate (C55PP) level increased in the bacA, ybjG double‐disruption strain, but C55P levels were similar in all strains.

Acid fast staining in formalin-fixed tissue specimen of patients with extrapulmonary tuberculosis [PDF]
Diagnosis of extrapulmonary tuberculosis (EPTB) is difficult owing to low number of bacilli in the specimens, lack of adequate sample and non-uniform distribution of bacteria in tissues.
