Gymnema sylvestre: Bioactive constituents, health benefits, and emerging applications in nutraceuticals and functional foods

open access: yesJSFA reports, EarlyView.
Abstract Gymnema sylvestre (Retz.) R.Br. ex‐Schult., commonly known as “gurmar” or “sugar destroyer,” belongs to the Apocynaceae family and is traditionally used in Ayurveda for diabetes management. This review synthesizes ethnomedicinal evidence with contemporary pharmacological studies, to evaluate the therapeutic properties and mechanistic actions ...

Effect of Nisin on the Quality Change of Roasted Shrimp with High Water Content during Storage

open access: yesShipin gongye ke-ji, 2023
To investigate the effect of Nisin on the storage of roasted shrimp with high water content at room temperature, different concentrations of Nisin (20, 60 and 100 mg/kg) were added to the rosted shrimp samples.

Genome Sequence of Bacillus cereus Group Phage SalinJah

open access: yesGenome Announcements, 2016
ABSTRACT The double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) Myoviridae Bacillus cereus group bacteriophage SalinJah was isolated from soil collected in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. SalinJah, a cluster C phage with a broad host range, suggests the need to create a new subcluster with SalinJah and Helga as founding members.

Antimicrobial bilayer starch film containing zein electrospun fibers encapsulating thyme essential oil for cherry tomato packaging

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study evaluated the antimicrobial activity of thyme essential oil (TEO) encapsulated in electrospun zein fibers for use in bilayer films as active packaging for cherry tomatoes. The antimicrobial activity of TEO and bilayer films with 20%, 40%, and 60% TEO was assessed with agar diffusion and microatmosphere assays.

Short- and Long-Term Biomarkers for Bacterial Robustness: A Framework for Quantifying Correlations between Cellular Indicators and Adaptive Behavior [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The ability of microorganisms to adapt to changing environments challenges the prediction of their history-dependent behavior. Cellular biomarkers that are quantitatively correlated to stress adaptive behavior will facilitate our ability to predict the ...

Boronic Acid Inhibitors of β‐Lactamases: A Promising Strategy Against Antimicrobial Resistance

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a critical threat to global health, mostly due to the proliferation of β‐lactamases, a class of enzymes responsible for the inactivation of β‐lactam antibiotics. Among the most promising strategies to restore β‐lactam efficacy is the use of β‐lactamase inhibitors (BLIs), with boronic acid ...

Bacillus cereus acid stress responses [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Bacillus cereus is a ubiquitous Gram-positive organism, which frequently causes foodborne illnesses. The widespread prevalence of B. cereus makes it a common contaminant in fresh foods where it also can cause spoilage.

Glycosyltransferase – a specific marker for the discrimination of Bacillus anthracis from the Bacillus cereus group [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 2008
Bacillus anthracis, the aetiological agent of anthrax, has been taxonomically classified with the Bacillus cereus group, which comprises B. cereus, Bacillus thuringiensis, Bacillus mycoides, Bacillus pseudomycoides and Bacillus weihenstephanensis. Although the pathogenesis and ecological manifestations may be different, B.

Localization of new peptidoglycan at poles in Bacillus mycoides, a member of the Bacillus cereus group [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Microbiology, 2012
Bacillus mycoides is a sporogenic Gram-positive soil bacillus of the B. cereus group. This bacillus, which forms hyphal colonies, is composed of cells connected in filaments that make up bundles and turn clock- or counterclockwise depending on the strain. A thick peptidoglycan wall gives the rod cells of these bacilli strength and shape.
