Cellular signaling and molecular regulation governing motility, biofilm formation, and virulence in the Bacillus cereus group

open access: yes, 2021
The bacterium Bacillus cereus is increasingly recognized as a major source of food-borne disease, as well as other severe infections. Biofilms are a common multicellular mode of growth, where bacteria can be protected against antibiotics and the immune ...

From biology to biotechnology: Host‐regulation factors from parasitoid wasps are a source of bioactive molecules with translational potential

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
Parasitoid wasps deploy maternal and embryonic factors to reprogramme host physiology. Venom, calyx fluid, polydnaviruses, teratocytes and larval secretions act in a coordinated, compartmentalised manner. Host‐regulation factors are promising sources of insecticidal, antimicrobial and bioinspired translational molecules.

Phages Preying on Bacillus anthracis, Bacillus cereus, and Bacillus thuringiensis: Past, Present and Future

open access: yesViruses, 2014
Many bacteriophages (phages) have been widely studied due to their major role in virulence evolution of bacterial pathogens. However, less attention has been paid to phages preying on bacteria from the Bacillus cereus group and their contribution to the ...

Differentiation of Bacillus thuringiensis From Bacilluscereus Group Using a Unique Marker Based on Real-Time PCR

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
The efficiency of a novel biomarker (the transcriptional regulator, XRE) was tested and evaluated in differentiating Bacillus thuringiensis from Bacillus cereus group species in environmental and spiked samples based on PCR and real-time PCR. Totally 120

Postoperative Antibiotic Duration and Treatment Failure After Aseptic Revision Arthroplasty With a Single Unexpected Positive Culture: A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, EarlyView.
Prolonged postoperative antibiotic use was associated with higher treatment failure in aseptic revision arthroplasty with a single unexpected positive culture, suggesting that extended antibiotic therapy may not improve outcomes and highlighting the need for individualized treatment strategies.

Microbial Partnerships for Sustainable Soybean Cultivation: Mechanisms, Applications and Prospects

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Soybean production is increasingly threatened by fluctuating environmental conditions and nutrient limitations. While synthetic fertilisers can alleviate these constraints, their excessive use has raised concerns regarding long‐term soil health. Consequently, leveraging beneficial soil microbes, a diverse group of microorganisms that reside in

Influence of intrinsic and extrinsic parameters on Bacillus cereus growth in one REPFED product

open access: yes, 2023
reservedBacillus cereus growth was evaluated in one REPFED in different pH and water activity conditions at three different temperatures (5, 8, 12°C). The product’s initial pH and aw values were 5.6 ± 0.1 and 0.99 ± 0.001 respectively. They were reduced

Bioremediation of Olive Mill Wastewater Using Free and Immobilized Pseudomonas aeruginosa: Efficiency and Phytotoxicity Assessment

open access: yesWater and Environment Journal, EarlyView.
The graphical abstract compares the bioremediation performance of olive mill wastewater using P. aeruginosa immobilized in agar beads and fixed on activated carbon. Both systems effectively reduced chemical oxygen demand (COD), phenols, colour, phosphorus and lipids.
