The detection of toxins in baby food using artificial intelligence. ABSTRACT Infant foods and baby formulas are becoming increasingly popular across the globe owing to their ease of consumption and nutritional value specific to infants. Impurities may find their way into the food chain at any point from the acquisition of raw materials to final ...

Calcium signalling in Bacillus subtilis
Few systematic studies have been devoted to investigating the role of Ca2+ as an intracellular messenger in prokaryotes. Here we report an investigation on the potential involvement of Ca2+ in signalling in Bacillus subtilis, a Gram-positive bacterium. Using aequorin, it is shown that B. subtilis cells tightly regulate intracellular Ca2+ levels.

Bistable forespore engulfment in Bacillus subtilis by a zipper mechanism in absence of the cell wall
To survive starvation, the bacterium Bacillus subtilis forms durable spores. The initial step of sporulation is asymmetric cell division, leading to a large mother-cell and a small forespore compartment.
