Bacterial Cell Division: The Mechanism and Its Precison
2006The recent development of cell biology techniques for bacteria to allow visualization of fundamental processes in time and space, and their use in synchronous populations of cells, has resulted in a dramatic increase in our understanding of cell division and its regulation in these tiny cells.

[FtsZ and the division of bacterial cell].
Tsitologiia, 2007In this review we have tried to describe proteins and supermolecular structures which take part in the division of bacterial cell. The principal cell division protein of the most of prokaryotes is FtsZ, a homologue of eukaryotic tubulin. FtsZ just as tubulin is capable to bind and hydrolyze GTP.

[Cell division genes and proteins in bacterial cells].
Tsitologiia, 2000In this review, genes and proteins involved in cytokinesis and cell proliferation of cell-wall bacteria and mycoplasms are considered. We hope that this comparative analysis of genes and proteins of phylogenetically distant bacteria, including the minimal cells of mycoplasmas, can be useful for understanding the basic principles of prokaryotic cell ...

Bacterial Cell Wall Growth, Shape and Division
2014The shape of a bacterial cell is maintained by its peptidoglycan sacculus that completely surrounds the cytoplasmic membrane. During growth the sacculus is enlarged by peptidoglycan synthesis complexes that are controlled by components linked to the cytoskeleton and, in Gram-negative bacteria, by outer-membrane regulators of peptidoglycan synthases ...

Genetic analysis of bacterial cell division.
Microbiological sciences, 1990A relatively small number of cell division genes have been identified in Escherichia coli. The available evidence, however, suggests that several of these genes play a crucial role in the process.
