Polymicrobial airway bacterial communities in adult bronchiectasis patients [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Background: Chronic airway infection contributes to the underlying pathogenesis of non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis (NCFBr). In contrast to other chronic airway infections, associated with COPD and CF bronchiectasis, where polymicrobial communities ...

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Survey of Invasive Haemophilus influenzae in the United States in 2016

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
Antibiotics are important for the treatment and prevention of invasive Haemophilus influenzae disease. Reduced susceptibility to clinically relevant drugs, except ampicillin, has been uncommon in the United States.

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Integrated disease management using environmental control in tea fields [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The occurrence of plant disease depends on interactions between the host plant, a pathogen, and the environment in a dynamic called "the disease triangle". Bacterial shoot blight (BSB) disease, caused by _Pseudomonas syringae_ pv.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Nationwide surveillance and characterization of the third-generation cephalosporin-resistant Salmonella enterica serovar infantis isolated from chickens in South Korea between 2010 and 2022

open access: yesHeliyon
The occurrence of extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL)/AmpC β-lactamase-producing Salmonella conferring resistance to third-generation cephalosporin has emerged as a global public health concern.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

The Leptospira immunoglobulin-like protein LigB from Leptospira borgpetersenii serovar Arborea is not required for either acute or chronic infection

open access: yesInfection and Immunity
Leptospirosis is a globally important zoonotic disease caused by more than 40 pathogenic Leptospira spp. that are responsible for more than 1 million human cases and almost 60,000 deaths annually.

Introduction and Application of the Interferon-γ Assay in the National Bovine Tuberculosis Control Program in South Korea

open access: yesFrontiers in Veterinary Science, 2020
Bovine tuberculosis is a chronic disease impacting both public health and the livestock industry. The interferon (IFN)-γ assay has been introduced as an ancillary test for diagnosing bovine tuberculosis to overcome limitations of the skin test.
