Quantification of bactericidal activity using the PATHFAST TB LAM Ag assay during the first 14 days of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment

open access: yesFrontiers in Antibiotics
BackgroundTuberculosis (TB) remains a global health challenge. Culture-free, rapid, and quantitative biomarkers to monitor treatment response are critical to accelerate development of better TB treatments.

Absolute quantification of Mycoplasma pneumoniae in infected patients by droplet digital PCR to track disease severity and treatment efficacy

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common causative pathogen of community-acquired pneumonia. An accurate and sensitive detection method is important for evaluating disease severity and treatment efficacy.

Optimisation of the Protocol for the LIVE/DEAD® BacLightTM Bacterial Viability Kit for Rapid Determination of Bacterial Load

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Rapid antimicrobial susceptibility testing is needed to reduce prescription of inappropriate antibiotics. A rapid alternative to standard culture-based testing is to determine reductions in cell viability using the LIVE/DEAD® BacLightTM Bacterial ...

Detection of organ bacterial load in quails [PDF]

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences, 2012
A total of thirty normally quail birds were bought from local market in Mosul city in the period from September-October 2011. Quail birds were slaughtered and samples taken aseptically from internal organs of each bird for bacteriological investigation. The result showed isolation of 203 bacterial isolates from different organs of quail birds.

A Cre‐dependent lentiviral vector for neuron subtype‐specific expression of large proteins

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We designed a versatile and modular lentivector comprising a Cre‐dependent switch and self‐cleaving 2A peptide and tested it for co‐expression of GFP and a 2.8 kb gene of interest (GOI) in mouse cortical parvalbumin (PV+) interneurons and midbrain dopamine (TH+) neurons.

STUDIES ON BACTERIAL LOAD OF FISH CONTAINER-II

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1963
In the previous paper1), the author reported on the invasion of the Takikawa's so-called pathogenic halophilic bacteria into the material of wooden fish container. It was also disclosed that the bacteria might easily migrate into inner part of such rough-grained wooden material as ceder or pine.

Increased airway glucose increases airway bacterial load in hyperglycaemia [PDF]

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
AbstractDiabetes is associated with increased frequency of hospitalization due to bacterial lung infection. We hypothesize that increased airway glucose caused by hyperglycaemia leads to increased bacterial loads. In critical care patients, we observed that respiratory tract bacterial colonisation is significantly more likely when blood glucose is high.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Letter to the editor: It is erroneous to directly associate the detection of Helicobacter spp. with gastritis in canines

open access: yesRevista Ciencias Veterinarias, 2017
It has been proposed that Helicobacter may play a significant role in the generation of gastritis and cancer in dogs.  However, despite several independent efforts, there is still controversy regarding the true ability of Helicobacter to cause gastric ...
