Injuries in deep time: interpreting competitive behaviours in extinct reptiles via palaeopathology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, Volume 101, Issue 3, Page 1073-1090, June 2026.
ABSTRACT For over a century, palaeopathology has been used as a tool for understanding evolution, disease in past communities and populations, and to interpret behaviour of extinct taxa. Physical traumas in particular have frequently been the justification for interpretations about aggressive and even competitive behaviours in extinct taxa.

Synergistic Effects of IMP‐1700, Ciprofloxacin, and X‐Ray Radiation in Bacteria and Mammalian Cell Lines: Implications for Use in Antimicrobial‐Resistant Bacteria

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
IMP‐1700 enhances the cytotoxic effect on bacteria in combination with either ciprofloxacin (CPX) or X‐ray. In noncancerous and tumor cells, combination treatments markedly reduce viability with radiosensitizing effects. Further studies are needed to clarify the mechanism underlying IMP‐1700s effects on mammalian cells. Created in BioRender. Kjaer, A. (

Targeting Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus Spike Fusion Machinery With Antiviral Peptides: In Silico Exploration of the Heptad Repeat 2 Domain

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Griffithsin, Brevinin‐2, and CCL20 were identified as potent MERS‐CoV fusion inhibitor candidates targeting the HR2 domain through integrated molecular docking, MD simulations, and MM/PBSA analyses. These peptides demonstrated superior binding stability and favorable safety profiles compared to the standard inhibitor, supporting their potential as ...

Safety Evaluation of Weissella paramesenteroides MW‐142 Isolated From Traditional Fermented Mulberry Wine

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 3, June 2026.
Integrated safety evaluation of Weissella paramesenteroides MW‐142 from traditional fermented mulberry wine demonstrates no acute oral toxicity, non‐hemolytic activity, absence of harmful metabolites, and only intrinsic, non‐mobile antibiotic resistance genes, supporting its potential as a safe candidate for probiotic or biopreservative applications ...
