From DNA sequence to application: possibilities and complications [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The development of sophisticated genetic tools during the past 15 years have facilitated a tremendous increase of fundamental and application-oriented knowledge of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and their bacteriophages.

3D Printing of Bacteriophage‐Loaded Hydrogels: Development of a Local and Long‐Lasting Delivery System

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This research investigates the feasibility of 3D‐printing of a bacteriophage‐containing hydrogel made of alginate and methylcellulose. The printed hydrogels steadily release active bacteriophages for up to 35 days which is beneficial to treat implant‐associated infections.

Phage Endolysins as Promising and Effective Candidates for Use Against Uropathogenic Escherichia coli

open access: yesViruses
The presented in silico and phylogenetic analysis of putative endolysins potentially produced by phages infecting uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) demonstrates their remarkable diversity.

Redefining Therapies for Drug‐Resistant Tuberculosis: Synergistic Effects of Antimicrobial Peptides, Nanotechnology, and Computational Design

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial peptide (AMP)‐loaded nanocarriers provide a multifunctional strategy to combat drug‐resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis. By enhancing intracellular delivery, bypassing efflux pumps, and disrupting bacterial membranes, this platform restores phagolysosome fusion and macrophage function.

Delivery of Multifunctional Microspheres via Intravesical Instillation for Bladder Carcinoma: Therapeutic Potential and Mechanistic Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
PCTM microspheres were successfully synthesized using microfluidic and click chemistry techniques. In Vivo and in vitro experiments have shown that PCTM microspheres have obvious targeting, adhesion, membrane penetration and anti‐tumor properties for bladder tumors. The antitumor mechanism of PCTM microspheres is to indirectly induce S‐stage blockage of ...

In Vivo Emergence of Podovirus Resistance via tarS Mutation During Phage-Antibiotic Treatment of Experimental MSSA Endocarditis

open access: yesViruses
Phage therapy shows promise as an adjunct to antibiotics for treating Staphylococcus aureus infections. We previously reported a combined flucloxacillin/two-phage cocktail treatment selected for resistance to podovirus phage 66 in a rodent model of ...

Bacteria‐Responsive Nanostructured Drug Delivery Systems for Targeted Antimicrobial Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bacteria‐responsive nanocarriers are designed to release antimicrobials only in the presence of infection‐specific cues. This selective activation ensures drug release precisely at the site of infection, avoiding premature or indiscriminate release, and enhancing efficacy.
