Pathogenicity of Bacteroides fragilis Group in Rat Intra‐Abdominal Abscesses [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology and Immunology, 1992
AbstractAttempts were made to study the pathogenicity of some strains of Bacteroides fragilis group in the rat intra‐abdominal abscess model. Multiple intra‐abdominal abscesses were produced in 50 to 70% of animals when an inoculum containing 109 CFU/ml of any of the five species of Bacteroides fragilis group was injected.

Interkingdom Interactions in the Gut: Ecological Mechanisms, Homeostasis, and Therapeutic Modulation

open access: yesGut Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The gut microbiota constitutes a highly complex and dynamic ecosystem that profoundly influences host physiology, metabolism, and immunity. This review provides an integrative overview of the mechanisms through which gut microorganisms—particularly bacteria and fungi—interact with host cells and with each other to maintain intestinal ...

Virulence markers and antimicrobial susceptibility of bacteria of the Bacteroides fragilis group isolated from stool of children with diarrhea in São Paulo, Brazil

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2004
Bacteroides fragilis has been isolated from several human and non-human monomicrobial and mixed infections. In this study, some virulence markers and the antimicrobial susceptibility of bacteria of the B.

Targeting Microbiome Metabolites: Reshaping Immunotherapy and Clinical Management Strategies for Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesiMetaMed, EarlyView.
The occurrence and progression of colorectal cancer are intricately linked to metabolites produced by the gut microbiota. Metabolites generated by pathogenic microbial communities can promote colorectal cancer development by reshaping the immune microenvironment.

Diverse Intestinal Bacteria Contain Putative Zwitterionic Capsular Polysaccharides with Anti-inflammatory Properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Zwitterionic capsular polysaccharides (ZPSs) are bacterial products that modulate T cells, including inducing anti-inflammatory IL-10-secreting T regulatory cells (Tregs).

Modified broth-disk surveillance of clindamycin-resistant Bacteroides fragilis group [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 1983
The modified broth-disk susceptibility test was used to assess the incidence of clindamycin resistance in the Bacteroides fragilis group. Over a 34-month period, 544 isolates were tested, 21 (4%) of which were found to be resistant. There was no significant difference in resistance among the six species, and resistance did not increase with time.

Gut microbiome‐derived metabolites show promise in cancer research and therapy

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
The metabolites produced by the gut microbiome, which are subject to regulation by multiple factors, play a pivotal role in the progression of various types of cancer. These metabolites not only function as potential biomarkers for the early detection and monitoring of tumor development, but also actively participate in cancer therapeutic processes ...

Susceptibility trends of Bacteroides fragilis group isolates from Buenos Aires, Argentina Tendencias en el perfil de sensibilidad de aislamientos del grupo Bacteroides fragilis obtenidos en Buenos Aires, Argentina

open access: yesRevista Argentina de Microbiología, 2007
The aim of this study was to analyze the susceptibility trends to seven antibiotics of Bacteroides fragilis group isolates based on three survey studies performed by the Committee of Anaerobic Bacteria between 1989 and 2002.

Intratumoral bacteria engineered for tumor therapy

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Medicine, EarlyView.
This article comprehensively reviews engineered intratumoral bacteria used in tumor therapy. The concept development, characteristics, and engineering methods of intratumoral bacteria are summarized. The mechanisms and the translational significance by which engineered intratumoral bacteria interfere with tumor progression are discussed and highlighted.
