A total of 300 extraintestinal clinical isolates of Bacteroides fragilis group organisms were assayed for enterotoxin using HT29/C1 cells. Of the 179 strains of B. fragilis, 36 (20.0%) were positive for cell culture assay, a positivity which was neutralized by anti-B.

Activity of pirlimycin (U57930E) against strains of the Bacteroides fragilis group [PDF]
The activities of pirlimycin (U57930E), lincomycin, clindamycin, erythromycin, josamycin, oleandomycin, and spiramycin were compared against strains of the Bacteroides fragilis group. Pirlimycin was the most active; the 90% minimal inhibitory concentration was 1 microgram/ml, and the activity range was 0.125 to 4 micrograms/ml.
