A Genomic View of the Human- Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron Symbiosis
Science, 2003The human gut is colonized with a vast community of indigenous microorganisms that help shape our biology. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of the Gram-negative anaerobe Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron , a dominant member of our normal distal intestinal microbiota.

The antimicrobial susceptibility of clinical isolates of Bacteroides fragilis and Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron collected from December 1990 through November 1992 was determined by the agar dilution technique. Metronidazole, imipenem, and cefoperazone/sulbactam remained highly active against both organisms. Rates of resistance to those agents were 0, 2%,

[Electron microscopic observations on Bacteroides thetaiotaomicron].
Wei sheng wu xue bao = Acta microbiologica Sinica, 1989Three strains of B. thetaiotaomicron have been isolated from caeca of BALB/c-nu/+ mice of SPF. These Bacteroides are obligately anaerobic, Gram-negative, non-spore-forming and non-motil without flagella rods. A characteristic of staining is deep at ends and stainless at the medium of a rod.

The minimum inhibitory concentrations of 45 antimicrobial agents were established by the agar dilution method for 37 strains of Bacteroidaceae: Bacteroides fragilis (18 strains), B. thetaiotaomicron (8 strains), Fusobacterium nucleatum (6 strains), and Fusobacterium spp. (5 strains).
