Host Phylogeny and Feeding Habit Jointly Govern Mammalian Gut Microbiota Composition
Herbivores showed higher alpha diversity than carnivores/omnivores, while omnivores had the highest beta diversity. Host phylogeny influenced gut microbiota more strongly in herbivores/omnivores, with phylogenetic distance correlating to microbiota dissimilarity.

Social rank in greater long‐tailed hamsters (Tscherskia triton) shapes gut microbiota composition and metabolite profiles. Based on metagenome‐assembled genomes (MAGs), the gut microbiota of the gray snub‐nosed monkeys recovered 1229 non‐redundant MAGs. The gut microbiota showed an enhanced capacity to produce energy substrates with increased conversion activity of these substrates during winter.
