Effect of pearlitic and bainitic initial microstructure on cementite spheroidization in rail steels
To improve the performance of the rails and wheels for the railway industry, new microstructures need to be researched. Nevertheless, the soft region observed in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ), caused by the spheroidization of cementite, leads to ...

The phase transformation behavior of a hypoeutectoid steel is studied in comparison with alloys containing higher concentrations of tramp elements, simulating high recycling rates. The examination of microstructures reveals that the tramp elements facilitate the formation of displacive phases along with retained austenite.

Alloy Qualification for Producing Quench and Tempered Plate Steels with Extra‐Heavy Gage
This study develops alloy concepts for ultraheavy steel plates (>100 mm) with ≥690 MPa yield strength. Through dilatometry and Jominy testing, the effects of Mo, Ni, and B on hardenability are quantified. A synergy between 0.5% Mo and 0.5%–1.0% Ni ensures core strength at low cooling rates, while boron microalloying suppresses ferrite and promotes ...

Intercritically annealed Q&P steels exhibit good strength-ductility synergies. Unlike fully austenized Q&P steels, intercritically annealed Q&P steels exhibit good ductility but contain a significant amount of ferrite, resulting in a lower yield strength

This work investigates the wear resistance and nitriding behavior of PBF‐LB/M‐processed Osprey HWTS 50, a lean hot work tool steel. Three heat treatment conditions are compared to conventional wrought H13, H11, and PBF‐LB/M 18Ni300. The study highlights HWTS 50's enhanced nitrogen diffusion, deeper nitriding hardness depth, and comparable or improved ...

Kinetics of the Bainite Transformation in Austempered Ductile Iron ADI [PDF]
Abstract The aim of the present research is to check an analytical model of the kinetics of bainite transformation that will enable the producers of ADI to optimise the microstructure and mechanical properties and minimise the expensive and extensive experimental trials.

Exploiting Residual Elements Arising from Scrap Steel in Future Sustainable Steel Alloy Design
Herein, the effects of residual elements Cu and Sn on grain growth, recrystallization, and phase transformation in C–Mn steel are summarized, and a case study is presented on how the presence of residual elements can be exploited to reduce deliberate Nb microalloying while achieving the same grain size control and strength during thermomechanical ...
