Bakteriofagi so, kot ostali virusi, obligatorni intracelularni paraziti, ki okužijo in se razmnožuje le v bakterijski celici. Tako bakterije kot bakteriofagi se spreminjajo – bakterije postajajo odporne na bakteriofage, bakteriofagi pa spreminjajo infektivnost, da lahko napadajo odporne bakterije.

V magistrski nalogi smo preučevali vpliv proteazne aktivnosti bakterij Pseudomonas na preživetje in rast štirih izbranih patogenih bakterij, ki so prenosljive s hrano – Listeria monocytogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium in Campylobacter jejuni.
