Host‐Directed Biomaterials for Combatting Bloodstream Infections: From Macrocyclic Peptides to Immune‐Activating Cell Backpacks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bloodstream infections (BSI) are one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in both civilian and military populations. This paper summarizes recent progress in novel treatment strategies to manage BSI arising from both bacterial and fungal pathogens using molecules, particles, and materials to elicit host‐directed immunity.

An Investigation of the Function of the Periplasmic Domain of BamA, an Essential Protein in Gram-Negative Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Gram-negative bacteria make up the majority of dangerous health-care associated infections (HAIs), and are becoming increasingly resistant to standard antibiotics.

Thin superconducting disk with B-dependent Jc: Flux and current distributions

open access: yes, 1999
The critical state in a superconducting thin circular disk with an arbitrary magnetic field dependence of the critical sheet current, Jc(B), is analyzed. With an applied field Ba perpendicular to the disk, a set of coupled integral equations for the flux

Biomimetic Iridescent Skin: Robust Prototissues Spontaneously Assembled from Photonic Protocells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform nanoparticles are induced to form arrays (photonic crystals) in the cores of biopolymer capsules, endowing these ‘protocells’ with structural color. These protocells are then assembled into large self‐standing objects, i.e., prototissues, with robust mechanical properties as well as iridescent optical properties.

An interval type-2 fuzzy AHP approach for success factors of green supply chain management [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Research in Industrial Engineering
This study aimed to design a model for identifying and ranking the factors influencing green supply chain management in the tile and ceramic industry, a significant industry in Iran. The study consisted of three main stages.

Stabilizing Cationic Palladium Single‐Atom Sites on Heteroatom‐Doped Carbon for Selective Hydrogen Peroxide Electrosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this research, it is demonstrated that dual nitrogen and sulfur doping in hollow carbon spheres creates a tunable coordination environment that stabilizes cationic Pd single atoms as robust organometallic complexes, enabling high selectivity and stability for electrochemical hydrogen peroxide production under harsh acidic and peroxide‐rich ...

High‐Yield Synthesis of Fe‐NC Electrocatalysts Using Mg2+ Templating and Schiff‐Base Porous Organic Polymers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fe─NC porous oxygen reduction electrocatalysts are prepared employing a 2,4,6‐Triaminopyrimidine‐based porous organic polymer, a Mg2+ Lewis acid, and a low‐temperature cation exchange protocol. Using the polymer precursor achieves high pyrolysis yields and results in atomically dispersed FeNx sites. The resulting catalysts feature hierarchical porosity

Atomically Revealing Bulk Point Defect Dynamics in Hydrogen‐Driven γ‐Fe2O3 → Fe3O4 → FeO Transformation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In situ TEM uncovers the atomic‐scale mechanisms underlying hydrogen‐driven γ‐Fe2O3→Fe3O4→FeO reduction. In γ‐Fe2O3, oxygen vacancies cluster around intrinsic Fe vacancies, leading to nanopore formation, whereas in Fe3O4, vacancy aggregation is suppressed, preserving a dense structure.
