Biodegradable composites were prepared from polylactic acid (PLA) and bamboo charcoal (BC) by melt blending and hot pressing. The effects of BC addition on the mechanical properties, water absorption, DMA, TGA, DSC, and CONE of BC/PLA composites were investigated. The microscopic morphology of the composites was analyzed by SEM. The results showed that

Improving Anammox start-up with bamboo charcoal
Chemosphere, 2012Three Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors were compared for Anammox enrichment using synthetic wastewater with Spherical Plastic (SP) and Bamboo Charcoal (BC) addition, and without carrier (CK). After four months of operation, the Anammox activity occurred in all reactors allowing continuous removal of ammonium and nitrite.

The presence of heavy metals such as mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), thallium (T1) and ruthenium (Ru) in wastewater, even in trace quantities, could cause a negative impact on our health. The adsorption method has been proven to be the most effective and low-cost method for removing of heavy metals from wastewater.
