Inheritance of resistance to herbicide (300 mg/l glufosinate ammonium) up to the third (T3) seed generation was compared in two populations of transgenic lettuce (Lactuca sativa L. cv 'Evola') harbouring a T-DNA containing the bar gene, linked to either the Cauliflower Mosaic Virus (CaMV) 35S promoter, or a -784-bp plastocyanin promoter from pea (petE)

Efficient Sugarcane Transformation via bar Gene Selection
Tropical Plant Biology, 2017Genetic engineering provides new opportunities for improving economically important traits in sugarcane cultivars. In this study, an efficient Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system that uses the bar gene (a herbicide resistance gene that is used in conjunction with the herbicide Basta) as a selection marker was developed.

Transformation of three genera of orchid using the bar gene as a selectable marker
Plant Cell Reports, 2000Protocorms or protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) of three orchid genera, Brassia, Cattleya, and Doritaenopsis, were genetically transformed via microprojectile bombardment using the bar gene from Streptomyces hygroscopicus. Selection for transformed cells was accomplished using bialaphos. PLBs that proliferated on selection medium containing 1 mg/l bialaphos

Effect of the Barring Gene on Eye Pigmentation in the Fowl
Pigment Cell Research, 1989Pigment cells of the iris, pecten, retinal pigment epithelium, and choroid of the wild‐type jungle fowl (JF) and the barred Plymouth rock (BPR) breeds of adult chickens were studied at both light and electron microscopic levels. BPR choroidal tissues had 2.8 times fewer melanophores than the JF choroid, and BPR melanophores also contained 2.4 times ...
