Environmentally adjusted productivity growth and shadow prices for dairy farms

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Agricultural Economics/Revue canadienne d'agroeconomie, EarlyView.
Abstract We estimate the environmentally adjusted productivity growth and shadow price for Ontario dairy farms. We use an input‐oriented directional distance function and farm‐level data from 2000 to 2020. First, we find that while GHG emissions per cow increase with higher milk yields, emission intensity decreases as milk yield per cow increases.

An experimental approach to assess the combined effects of multiple stressors on a large vertebrate species

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract The design of experiments to investigate the combined effects of multiple stressors requires exposing target organisms to multiple combinations of stressor doses. Concurrent manipulation of stressors is often infeasible with wildlife, but long‐lasting health effects allow individual health to be used as an integrator of prior stressor exposure.

Ortolan buntings (Emberiza hortulana) consistently select breeding territories with structurally diverse crops on well‐drained soils

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
This study investigated consistency in habitat selection over a 12‐year period in a breeding population of Ortolan Bunting in Uelzen, Lower Saxony (Germany). We demonstrate strong interannual variation in crop type preferences and avoidance and breeding territories were strongly associated with well‐drained soils with low soil fertility.

Food System Change, Development, and Vulnerability in Semi‐Agricultural Areas of Tibet

open access: yesCulture, Agriculture, Food and Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT With social and economic development, food systems have significantly changed on the Tibetan plateau over the last two decades. However, the impact of dietary change on Tibetans and their communities remains less well known. This article examines how food change happens in semi‐agricultural areas of eastern Tibet within the context of ...

Quantifying Species‐ and Community‐Level Predation by Carabids on Pests and Beneficials in Wheat and Beet Fields

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, EarlyView.
Using a model that translates qualitative prey detection data (presence/absence in predator gut contents) into quantitative predation rates, we estimate species‐specific diets of nine carabid species across three cropping contexts (wheat, sugar beet, and fodder beet) for five prey types.
