Unusual Morphologic Patterns of Basal Cell Hyperplasia of the Prostate

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2002
The distinction of basal cell hyperplasia (BCH) from carcinoma or high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia may be difficult. We reviewed 25 cases of BCH with unusual features and identified four distinct groups: BCH with intracytoplasmic globules (five cases); BCH with calcifications (eight cases), including one with globules; BCH with squamous ...

Hybrid sclerosing adenosis and basal cell hyperplasia of the prostate

Medical Molecular Morphology, 2010
Hybrid sclerosing adenosis and basal cell hyperplasia of the prostate is a rare lesion. Here we report the seventh case of such lesions. Histological examination of the transurethral resection of the prostate of a 83-year-old Japanese man showed a small lesion consisted of sclerosing adenosis and basal cell hyperplasia, in addition to the diffuse ...

Prostatic Basal Cell Hyperplasia in a Cynomolgus Monkey (Macaca fascicularis)

Veterinary Pathology, 1989
Basal cell hyperplasia is a rare lesion in the human prostate.5.9,10 Prostatic basal cell hyperplasia has not been reported in the nonhuman primate, although typical, spontaneous, adenomatous hyperplasia of the prostate has been reported in the squirrel monkey, chimpanzee, patas monkey, and calli~ebus.~.~ The 6-year old, male cynomolgus monkey (Macaca ...

Severity of Basal Cell Hyperplasia Differs in Reflux Versus Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 2006
ABSTRACTObjectives:Basal cell hyperplasia of the esophageal epithelium is a frequent finding in children with histological evidence of esophagitis. The aim of this study was to compare the severity of basal cell hyperplasia in gastroesophageal reflux vs eosinophilic esophagitis. Methods:A cohort of pediatric patients who underwent same‐day endoscopy ...

Seminal Vesicle Intraepithelial Neoplasia Versus Basal Cell Hyperplasia in a Seminal Vesicle

European Urology, 2014
In the examination of >3000 radical prostatectomy specimens and their seminal vesicles (SVs), we came across a unique case of an intraepithelial abnormality in preexisting ducts and acini in the left SV of a 73-yr-old patient with prostatic adenocarcinoma.

Basal Cell Proliferations of the Prostate Other Than Usual Basal Cell Hyperplasia

The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2004
Basaloid proliferations of the prostate with morphologic patterns other than usual basal cell hyperplasia are rare, and the distinction between benign and malignant lesions has been difficult. We describe 23 such lesions and classify them into two groups: adenoid cystic-like hyperplasia and adenoid cystic or basaloid carcinoma.

Basaloid/follicular hyperplasia overlying connective tissue/mesenchymal hamartomas simulating basal cell carcinomas

Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, 2001
Basaloid hyperplasia has been described overlying dermatofibromas as well as in the epidermis overlying nevus sebaceus. Although the morphology of these areas may resemble that of basal cell carcinoma (BCC), in the majority of cases aggressive behavior of the proliferation is not seen.

Neutrophil extracellular traps promote ΔNp63+ basal cell hyperplasia in chronic rhinosinusitis

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology
Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) are observed in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), although their role remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the influence of NETs on the CRS epithelium.Forty-five sinonasal biopsy specimens were immunofluorescence-stained to identify NETs and p63+ basal stem cells. Investigators treated human nasal epithelial
