Proteoglycans of basement membranes
Experientia, 1993Proteoglycans carrying either heparan sulfate and/or chondroitin sulfate side chains are typical constituents of basement membranes. The most prominent proteoglycan (perlecan) consists of a 400-500 kDa core protein and three heparan sulfate chains.

Morphology of the basement membrane
Microscopy Research and Technique, 1994AbstractThe aim of this contribution is to summarize our knowledge of the morphology of the basement membrane (BM). The first step in this direction is the attempt to define this term. The BM is composed of the Lamina lucida, densa, and fibroreticularis. Subsequently, the historical development of this term is discussed. Our main interest is, of course,

Microvascular Research, 1976
Abstract Human alveolar basement membrane (ABM) has been isolated and compared with human glomerular basement membrane (GBM) and trophoblast basement membrane (TBM). The three basement membranes (BMs) differed substantially in chemical composition.

Basement membrane in the uterine cervix
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, 1966Abstract A basement membrane could not be demonstrated with any degree of consistency in specimens of human cervix by means of the Ritter-Oleson staining technique, even though this technique demonstrated the membrane satisfactorily in control sections of normal breast and kidney tissue.

Ultrastructure of Basement Membranes
1989Publisher Summary This chapter reviews the morphological aspects and composition of ultrastructure of basement membranes. The fine structure of basement membranes in parallel with immunohistochemical investigations is described. The main ultrastructural component of all basement membranes is a three-dimensional network of cords.
