Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Is an Apple an Orange? A Large Language Model Benchmark for Candidate Term Extraction and Subclass Decisions Against Upper Ontologies in Engineering and Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Building machine‐readable vocabularies for materials science is slow, expert‐driven work. This study benchmarks 13 large language models on two of its first steps: finding candidate terms in engineering articles and deciding where they belong in a class hierarchy.

Feasibility of Batch Reactive Distillation with Equilibrium-Limited Consecutive Reactions in Rectifier, Stripper, or Middle-Vessel Column. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A general overall feasibility methodology of batch reactive distillation of multireaction systems is developed to study all the possible configurations of batch reactive distillation.

Enhancing Makespan Minimization in Unrelated Parallel Batch Processing with an Improved Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm

open access: yesEngineering Proceedings
To solve the unrelated parallel batch processing machine scheduling problem (UPBPMSP) with dynamic job arrivals, heterogeneous processing times, and machine heterogeneity, this paper presents an improved artificial bee colony (IABC) algorithm aimed at ...

A relationship between different costs of container yard modelling in port using queuing approach [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2018
In this paper we consider batch arrivals of containers at a port container yard which is modeled as a multi-server queue MX/M/c with c yard cranes for the service. It is assumed that the related group size (the number of containers in an arriving group),

How to Staff When Customers Arrive in Batches

open access: yesManagement Science
In many different settings, requests for service can arrive in near or true simultaneity with one another. This creates batches of arrivals to the underlying queueing system. In this paper, we study the staffing problem for the batch arrival queue.

Microstructure Reconstruction in Battery Electrodes Using Machine Learning Based on Low‐Voltage Focused Ion Beam–Scanning Electron Microscopy Tomography Images

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐voltage FIB‐SEM tomography combined with a image preprocessing pipeline improves phase contrast and enables reliable machine‐learning segmentation of conductive networks in lithium‐ion battery electrodes. Structural descriptors are extracted from segmented images, done semimanually and automated, and compared.

USING USDA FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLE ARRIVALS TO DETERMINE THE DISTRIBUTION OF A STATE'S PRODUCTION [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper examines the problem of transforming information on fresh fruit and vegetable Arrivals to U.S. Metropolitan Statistical Areas into a distribution of products to larger geographical regions.

Analysis of the transient delay in a discrete-time buffer with batch arrivals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We perform a discrete-time analysis of the delay of customers in a FIFO buffer with batch arrivals. The numbers of arrivals per slot are independent and identically distributed variables.

Analysis of a Queueing Model with Flexible Priority, Batch Arrival, and Impatient Customers

open access: yesComputation
In this study, we consider a multi-server priority queueing model with batch arrivals of two types of customers, a finite buffer, and two input finite buffers for storing customers that cannot be admitted for service immediately upon arrival.
