Non-pyrogenicity and biocompatibility of parylene-coated magnetic bead implants

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology
Clinical grade magnetic bead implants have important applications in interfacing with the human body, providing contactless mechanical attachment or wireless communication through human tissue.

Dual targeting of RET and SRC synergizes in RET fusion‐positive cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Despite the strong activity of selective RET tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs), resistance of RET fusion‐positive (RET+) lung cancer and thyroid cancer frequently occurs and is mainly driven by RET‐independent bypass mechanisms. Son et al. show that SRC TKIs significantly inhibit PAK and AKT survival signaling and enhance the efficacy of RET TKIs in ...

Molecular characterisation of human penile carcinoma and generation of paired epithelial primary cell lines

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Generation of two normal and tumour (cancerous) paired human cell lines using an established tissue culture technique and their characterisation is described. Cell lines were characterised at cellular, protein, chromosome and gene expression levels and for HPV status.

Hydrogel bead-based isothermal detection (BEAD-ID) for assessing the activity of DNA-modifying enzymes

open access: yesiScience
Summary: DNA-modifying enzymes are crucial in biological processes and have significant clinical implications. Traditional quantification methods often overlook enzymatic activity, the true determinants of enzymes’ functions.

Detection of circulating tumor DNA in colorectal cancer patients using a methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed a cost‐effective methylation‐specific droplet digital PCR multiplex assay containing tissue‐conserved and tumor‐specific methylation markers. The assay can detect circulating tumor DNA with high accuracy in patients with localized and metastatic colorectal cancer.

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Experimental Approaches to Amber Bead Production in Early Medieval (Fifth- And Sixth-Century AD) England

open access: yesEXARC Journal
Tens of thousands of amber beads have been recovered from furnished early medieval female burials of the later fifth to early seventh centuries AD in southern and eastern Britain (Brugmann, 2004, fig. 64; Huggett, 1988, pp.64-66).

Analysis of the combined effects of preheating and welding wire feed rates on the FCAW bead geometric characteristics of 1020 steel using fuzzy logic-based prediction models

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials
Single weld beads were deposited on a steel plate using three different welding wire feed rates (slow, medium, and fast). The samples were preheated before welding at three different temperatures (100, 150, and 200°C).
