Atorvastatin is not cataractogenic in beagle dogs

Current Eye Research, 1997
Atorvastatin (Lipitor) was developed as an inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG CoA) reductase for treatment of serum lipid disorders. Other reductase inhibitors (RIs) induce cataracts in dogs exposed to relatively high levels of the drugs for extended periods of time.

Acclimation to heat of the beagle dog

International Journal of Biometeorology, 1970
Four beagle dogs showed evidence of heat acclimation (reduced post-exercise heart rate and body temperature) within 10 days of first exposure of one hour a day in a hot environment (38 ± 2°C). One hour of daily exercise (110 m/min, 0% grade) in the heat (as with human subjects) was adequate to produce the effects of heat acclimation.

Effects of ovariectomy in beagle dogs

Bone, 1987
Beagle dogs 3-7 years old were ovariectomized (n = 9) or sham operated (n = 6) and followed for 48 weeks with measurements of body weight, tibial shaft bone mineral content (BMC), and serum biochemistry. Following killing, measurements were made of bone strength and histomorphometry.

Semen evaluation in the Beagle dog

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 1971
ABSTRACTUsing standard techniques, semen was collected from six normal Beagles, aged 1–2 years, at monthly intervals on seven occasions. The mean value of ejaculate was 3.1 ml, and the mean sperm count was 47.7 million/ml. Libido was maintained over the experimental period and the results were consistent throughout.Résumé.

The disposition of carboplatin in the beagle dog

Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology, 1988
Carboplatin was administered i.v. to four groups of three male beagle dogs at doses of 3, 6, 12, and 24 mg/kg (60-580 mg/m2). Plasma samples were obtained at appropriate times and protein-free plasma ultrafiltrates (PU) were generated with Amicon Centrifree micropartition systems. Urine was collected at 24-h intervals for 96 h.

Pupillometric studies in the beagle dog

Naunyn-Schmiedeberg's Archives of Pharmacology, 1975
A method of measuring pupillary diameter in the dog using a Kowa RC-2 fundus camera, to which an eyepiece graticule had been fitted, is described. Pupil diameter was measured either directly by reading off from the calibrated graticule or from photographs.
