Agronomic and nutritional performance of lentil–hull‐less barley mixtures under temperate Swiss conditions: protein content, protein yield stability, β‐glucan content and separation ability

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Intercropping of legumes with cereals enhances resilience, resource efficiency, and nutritional quality in food systems, yet few studies have integrated yield stability with grain quantity and post‐harvest processability. Lentils (Lens culinaris Medik.) and hull‐less barley (Hordeum vulgare L. var.

Burrow use by Saharan striped polecat (Poecilictis libyca) in an agricultural area of central Tunisia

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Saharan striped polecats in agricultural landscapes use many burrows (30–35 per season), facilitated by sandy soils. Burrow sharing is rare and mainly occurs between males and females during mating. Habitat use shifts seasonally, reflecting disturbance and soil conditions. Maintaining stable sandy habitats may be critical for persistence.

Kaempferol Attenuates Myocardial Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury by Suppressing Ferroptosis via the KEAP1–Nrf2–GPX4 Axis

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury is characterized by cardiomyocyte death, excessive oxidative stress, inflammation, and ferroptosis, which collectively limit the efficacy of reperfusion therapy. In this study, we investigated whether kaempferol (KAE), a natural flavonol with antioxidative and antiinflammatory properties, could ...

Spatial Patterns, Driving Forces, and Potential Grain Losses of Non‐Grain Production of Farmland in Central Yunnan Urban Agglomeration, China

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The expansion of farmland non‐grain production (NGP) poses a potential threat to food security and agricultural land protection, particularly in mountainous urban agglomerations. However, the utilization patterns, driving mechanisms, and associated production‐loss effects of farmland NGP in this specific regional context remain insufficiently ...

Analysis of Carbohydrates and Glycoconjugates by Matrix‐Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Mass Spectrometry: An Update for 2023–2024

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The use of MALDI mass spectrometry for the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates is a well‐established technique and this comprehensive review is the twelfth update of the original article published in 1999 and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2024.

Breathe, Eat, Talk: Three Essential Ingredients to Quality‐of‐Life Outcomes in Movement Disorders

open access: yesMovement Disorders Clinical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Breathing, eating, and talking (BET) impairments are common yet frequently underrecognized features of movement disorders. Deficits in respiration, swallowing, voice, and speech may emerge early in the course of a disease, adversely affecting safety, participation, and quality of life.

ATXN8OS Intermediate Expansion Acts as a Genetic Modifier in Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 48 (SCA48/STUB1)

open access: yesMovement Disorders, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Association between monoallelic STUB1 variant and expanded ATXN8OS alleles was recently reported, suggesting a pathogenic interaction that may influence spinocerebellar ataxia type 48 (SCA48) phenotype. Objectives We investigated the frequency and clinical impact of ATXN8OS in a large cohort of STUB1 carriers compared to individuals

Past, present and future of local crop evolution

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Promoting agrobiodiversity is a promising strategy for mitigating the negative effects of climate change on global food security. We highlight the central role evolutionary processes play in harnessing the potential of local crops by integrating genomics, archaeology, ethnobotany and traditional ecological knowledge (TEK).

Breeding for multi‐stress resilience in crops: Myth or possibility?

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Climate change threatens millions of farmers worldwide by exposing crops to multiple concurrent or sequential environmental stresses such as drought, heat, waterlogging, and diseases. Although crops have long been selected under naturally occurring multi‐stress conditions, breeding pipelines largely focus on optimal or single‐stress environments ...

Challenges and limitations of introducing pigeonpea as a new crop into smallholder farming systems through farmer‐to‐farmer education in Zambia

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Legume plants offer generous benefits for both the planet and people by supporting sustainable farming, food and feed systems through their ability to symbiotically fix atmospheric nitrogen. While grain legumes are cultivated and consumed globally, their adoption, market development, and integration into cropping systems vary.
