Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Research on Bored Bearing Characteristics in Xi’an

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2015
To analyze the influence of different soil properties on pile foundation load-bearing characteristics, taking a section of railway in Xi’an and a bridge of Xi’an as test area, and by field static load test to study load transfer characteristics after the

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Evaluation Of The Method Of Stress Characteristics For Estimation Of The Soil Bearing Capacity [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2008
The classical bearing capacity theories rely on the superposition of three separatebearing capacities – a technique that is inherently conservative – but they also rely ontabulated or curve-fitted values of the bearing capacity factor, Nγ, which may ...

Bearing Capacity of Shallow Foundations

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 1997
ABSTRACT A new concept for the calculation of the bearing capacity of shallow foundations is presented. The Terzaghi-Buisman equation was transformed and extended to include all possible load cases. The shape ratio was rigorously defined. Torsional moment factors considering eccentric horizontal loads were proposed and defined for the first time, in ...

Sustainable Soil Bearing Capacity Improvement Using Natural Limited Life Geotextile Reinforcement—A Review

open access: yesMinerals, 2020
Geotextiles are commercially made from synthetic fibres and have been used to enhance bearing capacity and to reduce the settlement of weak soil foundations. Several efforts have been made to investigate the possibility of using bio-based geotextiles for

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

Experimental Study on the Bearing Capacity of Reinforced Concrete Pipes with Corrosion-Thinning Defects Repaired by UHP-ECC Mortar Spraying

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The in situ spraying method is widely used because of its advantages as a trenchless pipeline repair technology, including a fast construction speed and close bonding between the repair lining layer and the reinforced concrete pipe.

PARK(ing) time–How park deficiency affects the biological clock in a Drosophila model of Parkinson's disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Drosophila park mutants serve as a model for Parkinson's disease. We used this strain to investigate the connection between oxidative stress and the circadian clock mechanism. We showed that increased oxidative stress affects the physiology of pacemaker cells, disrupting their daily structural plasticity. Lack of rhythmic signaling from pacemaker cells
