Management of Pile End Sediment and Its Influence on the Bearing Characteristics of Bored Pile

open access: yesBuildings
In order to study the influence of pile end sediment on the bearing characteristics of bored piles, the on-site bearing capacity test was conducted on a single pile.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

Thermo-Elasto-Hydrodynamic Characteristics Analysis of Journal Microbearing Lubricated with Rarefied Gas

open access: yesMicromachines, 2020
Temperature rise and elastic deformation are unavoidable issues occurring in high-speed gas microbearings due to the dominant small-scale fluid dynamics in rarefied gas flow applications.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Numerical simulation of bearing mechanism of steel casing group in complex karst area

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica
The construction of pile foundations in karst areas presents unique challenges due to the unpredictable spatial distribution of underground cavities, which may significantly increase the associated risk of such projects. Karst topography is characterized

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Study on bearing characteristics of bridge piles and deformation mechanisms of karst caves in karst area

open access: yesCarsologica Sinica
Due to the highly undulating terrain, complex geological conditions, and the widespread distribution of karst topography developed with underground karst caves in Southwest China, the construction of bridges and tunnels will inevitably traverse areas ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.
