The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...

Measurement of Direct Current Voltage Causing Electrical Pitting

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2010
It is widely known that electrical pitting occurs when an electrical current is passed through a ball or roller bearing. The authors have investigated critical electrical current density causing electrical pitting and have shown that it occurs in a ball ...

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

A schistosome [beta] subunit remodels inactivation of a calcium channel _via_ an N-terminal polyacidic motif [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The beta subunit of high voltage-activated Ca (Cav) channels targets the pore forming [alpha]~1~ subunit to the plasma membrane and defines the biophysical phenotype of the Cav channel complex. Cav channel inactivation following activation and opening is

Recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming and confer resistance to targeted therapies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that the majority of the 18 analyzed recurrent cancer‐associated ERBB4 mutations are transforming. The most potent mutations are activating, co‐operate with other ERBB receptors, and are sensitive to pan‐ERBB inhibitors. Activating ERBB4 mutations also promote therapy resistance in EGFR‐mutant lung cancer.

Magnetic bearing momentum wheels with magnetic gimballing capability for 3-axis active attitude control and energy storage [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Magnetic bearings used for the suspension of momentum wheels provide conclusive advantages: the low friction torques and the absence of abrasion allow the realization of lightweight high speed wheels with high angular momentum and energy storage capacity

Stiffness and energy losses in cylindrically symmetric superconductor levitating systems

open access: yes, 2002
Stiffness and hysteretic energy losses are calculated for a magnetically levitating system composed of a type-II superconductor and a permanent magnet when a small vibration is produced in the system.

Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

ON THE COMPUTATION OF ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE OF HYDRODYNAMIC JOURNAL BEARING [PDF]

open access: yesCarpathian Journal of Electrical Engineering, 2014
The paper approaches the mathematical model of electrical resistance of hydrodynamic journal bearing under different parameters of operation so as to predict bearing performance and safe load carrying capacity.

Design, Modeling and Control of Magnetic Bearings for a Ring-Type Flywheel Energy Storage System

open access: yesEnergies, 2016
This study is concerned with the magnetic force models of magnetic bearing in a flywheel energy storage system (FESS). The magnetic bearing is of hybrid type, with axial passive magnetic bearing (PMB) and radial hybrid magnetic bearing (HMB). For the PMB,
