Growth but Not Corticosterone, Oxidative Stress, or Telomere Length Is Negatively Affected by Microplastic Exposure in a Filter‐Feeding Amphibian

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microplastics (MPs) are of increasing global concern for species inhabiting aquatic habitats. However, the mechanisms behind animal responses to MPs still require comprehensive exploration. Amphibians are the most threatened vertebrate group with most species having a complex life cycle, commonly with an aquatic larval stage.

Influence of Benzothiophene C2‐Substituents in Palladium‐Catalyzed Direct C3‐Arylation

open access: yesJournal of Heterocyclic Chemistry, EarlyView.
The influence of several C2‐substituents on benzothiophenes in the palladium‐catalyzed CH C3‐arylation reaction was investigated. The reaction, which uses a commercially available, air‐stable palladium catalyst and a cost‐effective base, was found to be compatible with hydroxymethyl, formyl, and acetyl benzothiophenes C2‐substituents.

Optimizing Odorants for Olfactory Training Based on Olfactory Receptor–Ligand Pair Analysis

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This study employs receptor–ligand interaction analysis and olfactory epithelium transcriptomics to optimize olfactory training (OT). A novel four‐odorant combination (galaxolide, eugenol acetate, [−]‐menthol, geranyl acetate) activates 83.9% of 385 human olfactory receptors (ORs), covering 69.9% of estimated OR expression—significantly outperforming ...

Synthesis of Cellulose Hexanoate, Benzoate, and Mixed Esters: Exploring Their Potential as Enzyme Immobilization Platforms

open access: yesMacromolecular Bioscience, EarlyView.
Cellulose sourced from cotton linters was utilized to synthesize cellulose esters, specifically hexanoate, benzoate, and a mixed hexanoate‐benzoate variant, which were evaluated as platforms for enzyme immobilization. These esters were shaped into various architectural forms, including electrospun mats, layered sandwich structures, and spherical shapes.
