Voltammetric determination of benzoylecgonine

Analytica Chimica Acta, 1999
Benzoylecgonine is a metabolyte of cocaine. Benzoylecgonine can be electochemically detected by square-wave voltammetry at a mercury drop electrode in 0.5 mol/L KNO#, at pH 9.2. The maximum response appears at -1.06 V vs. Ag/AgCl/3 M KCl and it depends on benzoylecgonine, the sqare-wave frequency and amplitude, but it is independent of pH solutions ...

The disposition of benzoylecgonine in maternal and fetal rats

Neurotoxicology and Teratology, 2001
We tested our hypothesis that pregnancy alters the pharmacokinetic profile of benzoylecgonine, and that this metabolite accumulates in the fetus longer than in the mother. Chronically catheterized near-term pregnant and nonpregnant female Sprague-Dawley rats received an intravenous infusion of benzoylecgonine over a period of 30 min.

Focused microwave-assisted extraction of cocaine and benzoylecgonine from coca leaves

open access: yesPhytochemical Analysis, 2002
Extraction of cocaine and benzoylecgonine from coca leaves was performed by focused microwave-assisted extraction (FMAE). Cocaine extraction was optimised with respect to the nature of the extracting solvent, the particle size distribution, the moisture ...

Cytotoxicity of the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine

Brain Research, 1994
The NG108-15 and C6 cell lines were used in the present study as neuronal and glial models, respectively, to examine the cytotoxicity of the major metabolite of cocaine, benzoylecgonine (BE). Exposure of both cell types to varying concentrations of BE resulted in a loss of cells from the growth surface.

The Analysis of Cocaine and Benzoylecgonine in Meconium

Journal of Analytical Toxicology, 1992
We describe an assay for measuring cocaine and benzoylecgonine in meconium of infants born to mothers suspected of using cocaine during their pregnancy. The assay involves the use of fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) to screen for benzoylecgonine in a methanolic extract of the meconium.

Detection of benzoylecgonine in human urine

Journal of Chromatography A, 1977
A thin-layer chromatography (TLC) method is described that can be used to detect benzoylecgonine (BE), a metabolite of cocaine, in human urine. It is a two-part procedure that can be integrated into a rapid screening program for drug abuse. The first part of the method utilizes two TLC solvent systems to identify a variety of drugs, including BE.

Cocaine and Benzoylecgonine Excretion in Humans

Journal of Forensic Sciences, 1977
Abstract Cocaine is rapidly and extensively metabolized. Studies with 3H-labeled cocaine have demonstrated that the drug is biotransformed to at least ten metabolites in the rat, with the concentration of unchanged cocaine in the urine being less than 10% that of the metabolite benzoylecgonine [1].

TLC Analysis of Urine for Benzoylecgonine and Norpropoxyphene

Clinical Toxicology, 1980
A thin-layer chromatography (TLC) procedure has been developed for the analysis of urine samples for benzoylecgonine and norpropoxyphene, the major metabolites of cocaine and propoxyphene, respectively. Urine is made slightly acidic and methylated with dimethyl sulfate to convert the difficult-to-extract benzoylecgonine back into the much more readily ...

Benzoylecgonine exposure induced oxidative stress and altered swimming behavior and reproduction in Daphnia magna [PDF]

open access: yesEnvironmental Pollution, 2018
Several monitoring studies have shown that benzoylecgonine (BE) is the main illicit drug residue commonly measured in the aquatic system worldwide. Few studies have investigated the potential toxicity of this molecule towards invertebrate and vertebrate ...
