Thin-layer chromatographic analysis of cocaine and benzoylecgonine in urine
Journal of Chromatography A, 1975The sensitivity achieved by the described thin-layer chromatographic (TLC) method greatly exceeds that of previously published TLC methods for the determination of cocaine and its principal metabolite, benzoylecgonine, in urine. Sensitivity for cocaine and benzoylecgonine approaches 0.1 and 0.25 mug/ml, respectively, for a 5.0-ml specimen.

Benzoylecgonine and Ecgonine Methyl Ester Concentrations in Urine Specimens
Journal of Forensic Sciences, 1995Abstract The two major urinary metabolites of cocaine are benzoylecgonine (BE) and ecgonine methyl ester (EME). The major advantage of BE screening is that many commercial immunoassays are designed to detect BE. On the other hand, EME is more amenable to gas chromatographic screening.

Cocaine and benzoylecgonine oral fluid on‐site screening and confirmation
Drug Testing and Analysis, 2016Accurate on‐site devices to screen for drug intake are critical for establishing whether an individual is driving under the influence of drugs (DUID); however, on‐site oral fluid (OF) cocaine device performance is variable. We evaluated the performance of a newly developed benzoylecgonine (BE) test‐strip for the Draeger® DrugTest 5000 device (20 µg/L ...

Effects of Benzoylecgonine on the Behavior of Suckling Rats: A Preliminary Report
Journal of Child Neurology, 1992A major metabolite of cocaine, benzoylecgonine, causes behavioral activation that progresses to seizures when given intraventricularly to 2-week-old rats. The seizures are characterized by running, hopping, and vocalizing and are mixed with shorter-duration tonic episodes. Pretreatment with haloperidol, at a dose aimed at blocking stereotyped behavior,

Correlation of Urine and Serum Benzoylecgonine Levels in Pregnant Women
American Journal of Perinatology, 1997The objective of this study was to evaluate the correlation between urine and serum benzoylecgonine (BE) levels in pregnant women who use crack cocaine. Ten women who had recently smoked crack cocaine were recruited from a prenatal substance abuse clinic to participate in this study.

m-Hydroxy Benzoylecgonine Recovery in Fetal Guinea Pigs
Drug Metabolism and Disposition, 2000Recently, meta-hydroxybenzoylecgonine (m-OH BE) was identified by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy during quantitative analysis for cocaine. Identification of m-OH BE in addition to the routinely identified benzoylecgonine by gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy confirmatory assays may increase detection of cocaine-exposed infants and decrease ...

Cocaine and benzoylecgonine constrict cerebral arteries by different mechanisms
Life Sciences, 1995This study was designed to determine possible mechanisms underlying the vasoconstrictor activity of cocaine and its principal metabolite, benzoylecgonine (BE) in cat isolated cerebral arteries. The arteries constricted significantly in response to single doses of cocaine, BE and norepinephrine (NE; (P < 0.05).

Radioimmunoassay Screening of Dried Blood Spot Materials for Benzoylecgonine*
Journal of Analytical Toxicology, 1993Residual samples of blood spots, which are routinely collected on almost all newborns in the United States, can be used to determine seroprevalence information on newborns and maternal exposures to various substances, including drugs of abuse. By modifying a commercial radioimmunoassay (RIA) kit for urinary samples, one can use blood spotted on filter ...

Cocaine, norcocaine, ecgonine methylester and benzoylecgonine pharmacokinetics in the rat
Life Sciences, 1999We have compared the pharmacokinetics of bolus dose cocaine administration with that of its three most important metabolites; norcocaine, ecgonine methylester, and benzoylecgonine and assessed whether kinetics are dose dependent at two equimolar doses equivalent to cocaine hydrochloride 2.5 and 5 mg/kg respectively.

Cocaine Metabolite (Benzoylecgonine) in Hair and Urine of Drug Users
Journal of Analytical Toxicology, 1993Two methods of drug detection, urinalysis and hair analysis, were compared with respect to the efficiency of identification of drug use in a population of men living on the Arizona-Mexico border. The standard curve of cannabinoids in urine was linear to 20 ng/mL. The GC/MS levels for all cannabinoids combined in urine were very similar to that obtained
