Moringin, A Stable Isothiocyanate from Moringa oleifera, Activates the Somatosensory and Pain Receptor TRPA1 Channel In Vitro

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Moringa oleifera Lam. is a tropical plant widely used in traditional medicines and as a food supplement. It is characterized by the presence of glucosinolates and isothiocyanates; the stable isothiocyanate 4-[(α-l-rhamnosyloxy)benzyl]isothiocyanate (

Identification and improvement of isothiocyanate-based inhibitors on stomatal opening to act as drought tolerance-conferring agrochemicals

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Stomatal pores in the plant epidermis open and close to regulate gas exchange between leaves and the atmosphere. Upon light stimulation, the plasma membrane (PM) H+-ATPase is phosphorylated and activated via an intracellular signal transduction pathway ...

Selective cytotoxicity of benzyl isothiocyanate in the proliferating fibroblastoid cells [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, 2006
Abstract In the present study, experiments using presynchronization culture cells demonstrated that benzyl ITC (BITC), previously isolated from a tropical papaya fruit extract, induced the cytotoxic effect preferentially in the proliferating human colon CCD‐18Co cells to the quiescent ones.

Rational Design of Broad‐Spectrum Anti‐Enteroviral Molecular Glues Targeting Enteroviral RNAi Suppressors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By leveraging this homodimerization mechanism, molecular glues were rationally designed to induce dysfunctional 3A dimerization, thereby restoring antiviral RNAi. The optimal molecular glue, VTP‐32, demonstrated potent and pan‐enterovirus (groups A, B, D) antiviral effects.

Domino Polymerization for the Synthesis of Reductively Degradable Poly(disulfide)s With Arbitrary Side‐Chain Structures

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 23, 1 June 2026.
We developed a novel domino polymerization to synthesize reductively degradable poly(disulfide)s with tunable side chains. A novel monomer bearing thiolactone and pyridyl disulfide groups reacts with various amines, enabling continuous ring‐opening and disulfide exchange.

The Potential of Plant Secondary Metabolites as Bread Mould Inhibitors: Exploring Their Individual and Combined Antifungal Effect

open access: yesFoods
Plant secondary metabolites are an interesting source of natural antifungals and offer an alternative to synthetic preservatives. In this study, the activity of 218 secondary metabolites was evaluated against nine Penicillium species and one Aspergillus ...

Volatile Oils Discrepancy between Male and Female Ochradenus arabicus and Their Allelopathic Activity on Dactyloctenium aegyptium

open access: yesPlants, 2022
Volatile oils (VOs) composition of plants is affected by several exogenous and endogenous factors. Male and female plants of the dioecious species exhibit variation in the bioactive constituents’ allocation. The chemical variation in the VOs between male

Optimized Formation of Benzyl Isothiocyanate by Endogenous Enzyme and its Extraction from Carica Papaya Seed

open access: yes, 2014
Purpose: To use endogenous myrosinase in Carica papaya seed to convert benzyl glucosinolate (BG) to benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC) and then extract it for further studies. Methods: Process variables including seed powder particle size, sample-to-solvent ...

Stability of Benzylic-Type Isothiocyanates in Hydrodistillation-Mimicking Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2012
Pentadiplandra brazzeana Baillon (Pentadiplandraceae) is known to contain benzyl-, 3-methoxybenzyl-, 4-methoxybenzyl-, 3,4-dimethoxybenzyl-, and indole-type glucosinolates, and the essential oil obtained from its roots is mainly constituted of benzyl isothiocyanate and benzyl cyanide.

Shedding Light on Synthetic Autocatalysis: From Conventional Closed‐Shell Chemistries to Overlooked Open‐Shell Occurrences

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Why add another catalyst when the product itself holds the power to catalyze its own formation? Autocatalysis in synthetic chemistry enhances reaction efficiency and uncovers novel catalytic behavior across both closed‐shell and open‐shell systems, expanding reactivity and enabling innovative design strategies.
