Antimicrobial properties of berberines alkaloids in Coptis chinensis Franch by microcalorimetry

Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods, 2008
The growth thermogenic curves of Escherichia coli (E. coli) affected by berberine, coptisine and palmatine were determined quantitatively by microcalorimetry. The power-time curves of E. coli with and without the three berberines alkaloids (BA) were acquired, meanwhile the extent and duration of inhibitory effects on the metabolism were evaluated by ...

Genotoxicity of the isoquinoline alkaloid berberine in prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms

Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 1993
Berberine, a medically important isoquinoline alkaloid, was tested for the presence of genotoxic, mutagenic and recombinogenic activities in microorganisms. This alkaloid did not show genotoxic activity with or without metabolic activation in the SOS chromotest.

The mechanisms of ROS-photogeneration by berberine, a natural isoquinoline alkaloid

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 2010
The reactive oxygen species (ROS)-photogenerating mechanisms of berberine (BER) have been elucidated based on the time-dependent density functional theory calculated triplet excited (T(1)) state characters in explicit solvent models. The lowest triplet excitation energy of BER is obtained for the first time.

Berberine Alkaloid as a Sensitive Fluorescent Probe for Bile Salt Aggregates

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2007
Effect of sodium cholate (NaC) bile salt on the absorption and fluorescence properties of berberine cation was studied in aqueous solution and water-cosolvent mixtures. The alteration of the fluorescent behavior with increasing NaC concentration showed an entirely different trend from that found previously in the presence of sodium dodecylsulfate ...

Recognition of molecularly imprinted polymers for a quaternary alkaloid of berberine

Talanta, 2011
Selective and affinitive imprinted polymers incorporating a quaternary alkaloid of berberine (BER) were prepared using a non-covalent imprinting method. The results showed that, compared to other imprinted polymers, the polymer AD-10 had not only a higher of the ratio of Q(MIP)/Q(BP) for BER adsorption, and but also a larger of the ratio of Q(MIP,B)/Q ...

Effect of berberine alkaloids on Bifidobacterium adolescentis growth by microcalorimetry

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2009
The inhibitory effects of three berberine alkaloids (BAs) from Coptis chinensis Franch on Bifidobacterium adolescentis growth were investigated by microcalorimetry. The growth rate constant (k) and maximum heat-output power (Pmax) decreased and peak time of maximum heat-output power (tp) prolonged with the increase of BAs concentration. Half inhibitory

Alkaloids of the Papaveraceae V. Muramine and berberine from Argemone squarrosa

Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1967
Argemone squarrosa Greene (subsp. squarrosa ) from several locations in central New Mexico was found to contain mainly muramine and berberine, but no allocryptopine. This is in contrast to an earlier literature finding that the same species from southern Colorado contained allocryptopine as the major, if not only, alkaloid.

BERBERINE, A NATURAL ALKALOID, AFFECTS ZEBRAFISH CARDIOVASCULAR DEVELOPMENT

2016
The zebrafish larva is increasingly used as a vertebrate animal model for in vivo drug discovery and for toxicology and biosafety assessments, bridging the gap between cell assays and rodent assays. In fact, zebrafish responses to toxic compounds are highly predictive of mammalian responses because of their very similar physiology, development and ...
