Extensions of best approximation and coincidence theorems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1997
Let X be a Hausdorff compact space, E a topological vector space on which E* separates points, F:X→2E an upper semicontinuous multifunction with compact acyclic values, and g:X→E a continuous function such that g(X) is convex and g−1(y) is acyclic for ...

Improved Best-fitting Gaussian Approximation PHD Filter

open access: yesLeida xuebao, 2013
The best-fitting Gaussian approximation Probability Hypothesis Density (PHD) filter is a novel algorithm for multiple maneuvering target tracking. However, there is a problem that the model probabilities are calculated without the measurement innovation.

Best simultaneous Lp approximations [PDF]

open access: yesCzechoslovak Mathematical Journal, 1998
The paper deals with simultaneously approximation of \(n\) real-valued functions in \(L_p\). Some previous results concerning the problem in \(L_1\) and \(L_2\) norms and/or in \(L_p\) for a pair of functions \((n=2)\) are generalized.

Multiway Cut, Pairwise Realizable Distributions, and Descending Thresholds

open access: yes, 2014
We design new approximation algorithms for the Multiway Cut problem, improving the previously known factor of 1.32388 [Buchbinder et al., 2013]. We proceed in three steps.

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Best simultaneous Diophantine approximations. I. Growth rates of best approximation denominators [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1982
This paper defines the notion of a best simultaneous Diophantine approximation to a vector α \alpha in R n R^n with respect to a norm ‖ ⋅ ‖ \left \| \,\cdot \, \right \| on R n R^n .

Time after time – circadian clocks through the lens of oscillator theory

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Oscillator theory bridges physics and circadian biology. Damped oscillators require external drivers, while limit cycles emerge from delayed feedback and nonlinearities. Coupling enables tissue‐level coherence, and entrainment aligns internal clocks with environmental cues.

An extension of a best approximation theorem

open access: yesInternational Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences, 1996
In this paper an extension of a theorem of Prolla is given and several interesting corollaries are derived. Fixed point results are also given in the end.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...
