Machine‐Learning Decomposition Identifies a Big Two Structure in Human Personality with Distinct Neurocognitive Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using machine learning on a mega‐scale global dataset (n = 1,336,840) reveals a robust personality trait architecture beyond the Big Five. A Big Two model, broadly capturing social engagement and internal mentation, defines a geometric space that links personality to neurocognitive profiles.

Improving Value-at-Risk prediction under model uncertainty

open access: yes, 2020
Several well-established benchmark predictors exist for Value-at-Risk (VaR), a major instrument for financial risk management. Hybrid methods combining AR-GARCH filtering with skewed-$t$ residuals and the extreme value theory-based approach are ...

AutomataGPT: Transformer‐Based Forecasting and Ruleset Inference for Two‐Dimensional Cellular Automata

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We introduce AutomataGPT, a generative pretrained transformer (GPT) trained on synthetic spatiotemporal data from 2D cellular automata to learn symbolic rules. Demonstrating strong performance on both forward and inverse tasks, AutomataGPT establishes a scalable, domain‐agnostic framework for interpretable modeling, paving the way for future ...

Comparing Sampling and Estimation Strategies in Establishment Populations

open access: yesSurvey Research Methods, 2009
Population structure is a key determinant of the efficiency of sampling plans and estimators. Variables in many establishment populations have structures that can be described by simple linear models with a single auxiliary variable and a variance ...

Genetic evaluation using single-step genomic best linear unbiased predictor in American Angus.

open access: yesJournal of animal science, 2015
Predictive ability of genomic EBV when using single-step genomic BLUP (ssGBLUP) in Angus cattle was investigated. Over 6 million records were available on birth weight (BiW) and weaning weight (WW), almost 3.4 million on postweaning gain (PWG), and over 1.3 million on calving ease (CE).

Functional Analysis of Ligand‐Gated Chloride Channels in a Cnidarian Sheds Light on the Evolution of Inhibitory Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We uncover a large variety of putative inhibitory ligand‐gated ion channels (LGICs) in the phylum Cnidaria, the sister group to all bilaterian animals. Phylogenetic analysis suggests a complex evolutionary history of inhibitory LGICs with diverse neurotransmitter ligands.

Prediction of a Small Area Mean for an Infinite Population when the Variance Components Are Random [PDF]

open access: yes
In this paper, we propose a new model with random variance components for estimating small area characteristics. Under the proposed model, we derive the empirical best linear unbiased estimator, an approximation to terms of order and an estimator whose ...

Unveil Fundamental Graph Properties for Neural Architecture Search

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper proposes NASGraph, a graph‐based framework that represents neural architectures as graphs whose structural properties determine performance. By revealing structure–performance relationships, NASGraph enables efficient neural architecture search with significantly reduced computation.

Genomic evaluation of Holstein cattle in Antioquia (Colombia): a case study

open access: yesRevista Colombiana de Ciencias Pecuarias, 2014
Background: DNA markers have been widely used in genetic evaluation throughout the last decade due to the increased reliability of breeding values (BV) they allow, mainly in young animals.

Global Modeling and Prediction of Computer Network Traffic [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We develop a probabilistic framework for global modeling of the traffic over a computer network. This model integrates existing single-link (-flow) traffic models with the routing over the network to capture the global traffic behavior.
