High‐Altitude Adaptation of Frogs (Case Study: Nanorana parkeri): From Physiological Phenotypes to AltitudeOmics

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
High altitudes are challenging for the animals that inhabit these environments. The Xizang plateau frog (Nanorana parkeri) survives in high‐altitude environments through a synergistic strategy of metabolic remodeling and protein expression adjustment to optimize energy efficiency and enhance cellular protection.

D(-)-beta-hydroxybutyrate inhibits catecholamines-stimulated lipolysis and decreases beta-adrenoceptors affinity in human fat cells but not in lymphomonocytes.

open access: yes, 1990
The effect of D-(-)-beta-hydroxybutyrate, at concentrations commonly achieved during ketoacidosis in humans (10 mmol/l), on human fat cell lipolysis in vitro was the aim of this study. The basal lipolysis was not modified and beta-hydroxybutyrate did not

Gut Microbiota of Gray Snub‐Nosed Monkeys: Adaptation to Seasonal Variations Through Energy Compensation and Thermogenesis

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
Based on metagenome‐assembled genomes (MAGs), the gut microbiota of the gray snub‐nosed monkeys recovered 1229 non‐redundant MAGs. The gut microbiota showed an enhanced capacity to produce energy substrates with increased conversion activity of these substrates during winter.

Interaction of D-beta-hydroxybutyrate apodehydrogenase with phospholipids.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1975
The interaction of a soluble homogeneous preparation of D-beta-hydroxybutyrate apodehydrogenase with phospholipid was studied in terms of restoration of enzymic activity and complex formation. The purified apoenzyme, which is devoid of lipid, is inactive. It is reactivated specifically by the addition of lecithin or mixtures of phospholipids containing

Biomimetic MCC950‐loaded cerium‐layered double hydroxide nanoparticles for targeted treatment of Type 1 diabetes in streptozotocin‐induced mice

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
The CLMBM nanoparticle (NP) system demonstrates strong and targeted anti‐ROS, antiapoptotic and anti‐inflammatory properties within the pancreas, thereby inhibiting the onset and progression of type 1 diabetes. Background and Purpose The destruction of β‐cells in type 1 diabetes is driven by signalling cascades that ultimately lead to cell apoptosis ...

Prominent action of butyrate over beta-hydroxybutyrate as histone deacetylase inhibitor, transcriptional modulator and anti-inflammatory molecule

open access: yes, 2019
Butyrate and R-beta-hydroxybutyrate are two related short chain fatty acids naturally found in mammals. Butyrate, produced by enteric butyric bacteria, is present at millimolar concentrations in the gastrointestinal tract and at lower levels in blood; R ...
